Heimans Bus Involved in a Serious Early Morning Accident

NEW BALTIMORE, NY [CHI] — A Jewish bus service from New York to Montreal was involved in a serious accident early Sunday morning on the New York State Thruway. The incident happened in Greene County at mile marker 127.5 in the town of New Baltimore.

A tractor trailer driven by Mark Erickson, 47, that was heading along with the bus northbound when at around 3:15am the truck attempted to make an illegal u-turn across the highway and was struck by the bus.

Nine people, including the driver and passenger of the tractor-trailer, the driver of the bus, and six of the bus passengers, 4 of which are reported the be Lubavitcher girls, were taken to Albany Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was ticketed on a charge of making an illegal U-turn.

The northbound lanes of the Thruway were closed and northbound traffic was detoured around the accident onto Route 9W for about three hours. State Police were assisted by the New Baltimore Fire Department, ambulances from Bethlehem, Catskill, Coxsackie and Ravena, and Thruway maintenance personnel.

    i was on the bus, when we had to stand out there in the rain and cold that smile sign gave us a good laugh!!

    No need to alarm concerned parents and freinds from overseas. The girls were indeed Lubavitchers, but not from the Seminary. B”H they are all home and fine.
    No need to dramatize and sensationalize an already sad story…….

    and 3 of them were hurt
    it was scarry and verry sad to hear that but to have them back was conforting thank G.D they are back they are our heroes!!!

    there were four girls from the Lubavitch seminary in St. agathe. Boruch Hashem the girls came home from the hospital and are recovering…

    accident happened at abt 315 new bus came abt 630. till we we were all out of the bus took over an hr prob nearly 2. we had to wait outside a bit till school buses came to pick us up and all our belongings were out of the bus. they took us to a rest area where we had a chance to warm up and get hot drinks, and if anyone wanted get cheked by paramedics. then waited for the bus. and the driver did amazing timing.
