Crown Heights Hatzalah Opposes Maimonides Hospital’s City Takeover

Crown Heights Hatzalah joined Hatzalah Divisions across Brooklyn in publicly opposing an attempt by NYC to take over Maimonides Medical Center in Boro Park, A Hospital used extensively by the Orthodox Jewish communities of Brooklyn and beyond.
“Since I took office, the future of Maimonides has been at the forefront of our agenda,” Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein wrote in a press release regarding the hospital takeover. “Not a week has gone by over the last several years that we have not been working on this issue behind the scenes. The fact is that Maimonides is in a fiscal crisis for a variety of reasons, so much so that the state has been actively bailing out the hospital to the tune of $350 million a year, just to meet payroll.”
The issues are so bad, that hospital administrators have presented a plan for the hospital to be taken over by NYC Health + Hospitals, which presently runs city hospitals such as Kings County Hospital.
Assemblyman Eichenstein felt the need to speak up, but was joined by a coalition of Hatzalah Divisions including Crown Heights.
