No Injuries After Unattended BBQ Sparks Roof Fire in Crown Heights

It’s not out until the last ember is extinguished.

A group of bochurim grilling on the roof of a building in Crown Heights accidentally sparked a fire Wednesday after leaving a BBQ unattended near a mattress. No injuries, but plenty of damage was caused by the fire.

According to reports, firefighters were called to 717 Eastern Parkway for a fire on the roof of the building and quickly called an “All Hands”. The fire, which had begun as embers from a BBQ, spread to a mattress left nearby and sparked a large fire.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze without injuries, but the roof of the building sustained significant damage.

Video of how the fire started was released to the public soon after the incident. The video highlights the importance of NEVER leaving a fire of any sort unattended, even embers from a grill.

Making itn on the roof could be rationalized. No other space. But leaving it unattended is ilogical
