CrownHeights.info will be broadcasting live video footage of tonight’s gathering in Oholei Torah, which was called by the Rabbonim and community leaders to address the penetration of the Call of the Shofar “cult” into the heart of the Chabad community. The event begins at 8:30pm.

The gathering will be attended by many Rabbonim, Roshei Yeshiva, Mashpi’im and leaders of the Chabad community, including all members of the Crown Heights Beis din.

  • Rabbi Shea Hecht should prepare his notes this time

    Rabbi Shea,
I hope you have prepared something to say.
So you dont sound unknowledgeable about a topic that you have alot of experience with.
Instead of making broad unspecific claims, come with something substantial that does you justice.
    Feel me?

  • Call home ET

Funny, I never heard about the call shofar thing until it was mentioned on these websites.

  • Otd

Cot is not the issue. It is merely a response and filling a void left behind the current yeshivah autocracy.

  • Strange

I see Rabbi Shapiro (a COTS devotee) on the Dias.
Is he giving the other side if the story?
Is he speaking of his good experience there?

  • sheker ana be'achiv

Rabbi Schapiro is nowhere near a devotee, despite what people like you would like others to think.
He may have gone once, which btw would be the responsible thing to do if you know that bochurim are being sent there, but he never sent anyone there himself

  • Law

What the heck is call of the shofer? I guess you guys are doing good marketing for this call of the shofar no one knows what this is.

  • Rabbi Schapiro went twice.

As a mashpia he should have dissuaded people from going and never should have gone himself.
If has personal issues or issues with Vaad that he used to work for then he should have gone to a psychiatrist. Not to this.
Everyone understood the danger except him? If so, he should resign.

  • THANK YOU!!!

this answered all the questions! if you didnt get it, speak to someone who can explain it to u

  • Huh??

Why is a psychiatrist ok but not COTS? Did a psychiatrist study Tanya? Several people that went to COTS related that it’s based on Torah hashkafa and teaches that the ultimate Goal is Dvakus. What’s better, being treated by Sigmand Freud or attending a program of well being based on Torah hashkafa? We still believe in 5 books, right??

Professional “behavior specialists” (psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, etc.) would be more likely to recommend, for example, to leave a marriage, or yiddishkeit, than to take the difficult path. Yet somehow, in CHts) they receive a veneration that is not becoming. Sure, their skills, experience, etc., are useful. But they are not sacrosanct (“holy” etc.). And the sound of this Shofar is certainly a few notches up.

Is there any rational and objective thinker, who could not foresee all this (frying out included) ? More likely, there are very few who are such thinkers (certainly not mashpiyim – because as a mashpiya he would have to quit before pushing the standard ideology in Lubavitch today.)

The solution is so simple. Keep doing the same thing. Right? But do it more and better. Keep trying to sell a third generation, the feelings you have in the heart for Lubavitch. Do more of the same. Ignore the need for teaching respect to toychendike chassidim. Let every teenager be a mashpiya in his(her?) own eyes. – because that is exactly what happens if an elder speaks out. “I think you have it wrong”, they say to snyone or everyone.

People are screaming internally for leadership, but they don’t CREATE it when they see it. Because, of course, they don’t see (recognize) quality. Their view of the world (in their own eyes) is about as good as it gets. (As someone said recently at a farbrengen: There are no tzadikim nistarim nowadays. No one asked the obvious question. And no -one realized that there are “no” chassidim nistarim nowadays. Or are there? (Hatzneh Lechess – when was the last time you heard that?)

There is only one way to make leadership. To follow. The posik says “Som tasim alecha”, not “aleiyhem”. If there were enough individuals who would keep coming to someone for their guidance – then you have a leader. (and the word spreads.)

Tanya has a relevant meaning through the leader. Not just mumbling kabbalah words, or seeking to (be able to seem to) be grasping hyper-abstract concepts and analyses of Yesh and Ayin, Hamshochas Elokus into olam that we haven’t the slightest way of relating to in the here and now.

Chassidus was never meant to be an ideology. It is first and last: A derech in avoidas Hashem. And Tanya spells it out as three levels (which amazingly no one seems to realize) and the lowest level is shayuch to everyone even in the age of “digiformation”.

    Eiyn ohr beli keillim.

  • scary

Simcha has no qualifications in terms of therapy! If someone has an issue, go to a therapist, why would u want to go to an unqualified place which uses unconventional methods ?

  • just wondering ..cult/colt

so is cult not a word “we” use now, only ‘colt’…
but “Krishna” is not a problem…seriously
this is getting way out of hand
and imho, rabbi shochat kind of missed the mark
rather than berating people who are clearly not getting what they need from the system, he could have been a bit more empathetic
not advocating for cots…just saying that it seems important to understand why the teaching of Tanya is not having the right effect

  • BCH

Oh my G-d! Stop with the “even yokor” already!!! It’s embarrassing, really! The word “even” is not masculine, it’s feminine, it’s supposed to be “even yokoroh”!!!!

    • Citizen Berel

This is very special and very important and I am happy that you mentioned it.

And got it off your chest.

You don’t have to be embarrassed anymore.

      Because you matter.

“why would u want to go to an unqualified place which uses unconventional methods ?”

Because “conventional” therapists teach me that all people are all the same, Jews and Gentiles, so there is nothing unique about me.

“conventional” therapists would try convincing me that my obsession with passover cleaning is really a disease called OCD, and it is an unreasonable fear uncleanliness and sin, and that I should use “conventional” CBT to become comfortable with my irrational fear of sin.

Conventional therapists told me that my belief in a God is the result of early programing in my “culture.”

If I ask to not record a secret into their paperwork, Conventional therapists don’t respect my wish. They have legal requirements which come first. They would tell me “common, there is nothing to be ashamed of.” They wanted to “fix” me; they wanted to desensitize me of my sensitivity.

That’s why I prefer “unconventional” methods. They support my belief in a God. They support my insistence that my “irrational” passover cleaning is normal. They support my belief that I am a unique individual which is different from other people. They don’t try to desensitize me of my sensitivity.

If I don’t have the money to pay for an “appointment”, the “unconventional” therapist would still see me. If I prefer to call them by their first names, and not by their titles, that’s ok with them too.

    That’s why.
