8:00pm: Stinginess, Parents’ Obligation, Favoritism, Children Hurt by the System

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 41, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the following topics: Stinginess, Parents’ Obligation, Favoritism, Children Hurt by the System, The Politics of Kashrus, Peer Pressure, The Rebbe’s Igros (Pt. 2) and More.

Is stinginess inherent or acquired? Is there any virtue in being tightfisted – even when funds are available? What can be done with a stingy spouse or other loved ones whose decisions affect our lives? What is our parents’ obligation to us? Are they required to support us financially, assist with shidduchim and help fund our milestones? What if parents are financially unstable and cannot help, or there is just not enough to go around? Is this justification for resentment? How can we deal with parents that play favoritism? Why is kashrus so political?

Raising a child is the most holy and admirable responsibility, while simultaneously being the most challenging. What is the significance and how does one practically implement the Rebbeim’s advice to discuss our children’s chinuch (education) thirty minutes each day? How can we rebuild our children after a crushing experience, especially when the perpetrator is a mosad or authority? Is there any advice for dealing with peer pressure and preserving our children’s innocence in the face of friends without boundaries and different levels of observance?

He will also discuss a sensitive topic, which many Lubavitchers find themselves confronted with: Why do we call out to the Rebbe and ask for his brochos instead of calling out to Hashem? Additionally, is there legitimacy to looking in the Igros (letters) of the Rebbe? Can we – and how do we – get answers from the Rebbe today?

This hour-long dose of insight is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

In inimitable “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.
