8:00pm: Critiquing Israel, Yeshiva Tuition and Secular Studies

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 30, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info beginning at 8:00pm. This week, Rabbi Jacobson will address the topics of: Responding to Israel Critique, Non-Jews, Preparing for Elul, Yeshiva Tuition, and Secular Studies.

With Israel dominating headlines and the object of international criticism, what does the Rebbe teach us about how we should respond to “leftist” individuals who continue to distort the picture with outrageous and uninformed statements?

How should we interact with non-Jews? What exactly are we obligated to teach them about Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach? What are the Rebbe’s directives connected with the 15th of Av and preparing for Elul? Yeshiva tuition costs are substantial and we don’t receive subsidies—should we consider changing schools or live in debt forever?

Rabbi Jacobson will return to the topic of limudei chol, responding to specific questions. Should we differentiate between the education of boys and girls? Does secular wisdom refer only to philosophy, or to other subjects as well? My wife wants to teach our children spelling and math. Does this go against the Rebbe’s directives? As a teacher, is it advisable to pursue a higher education, becoming more qualified, or is reading the Rebbeim’s chinuch guidelines enough? How can we have a respectable livelihood without a secular education and college degree?

MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

In inimitable “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.
