History Comes Full Circle at Kharkov Wedding

Hundreds of guests came to partake in an historic wedding in Kharkov, Ukraine. Rivka Moskovitz, daughter of the Shluchim to the city, got married in her hometown to Moishy Korf, son of Rabbi Yossi Korf from Crown Heights. Moishy’s grandfather, Reb Gedalya Korf, grew up in Kharkov, and was from the founders of “Ezras Achim” – an organization that kept the flames of Yiddishkeit alive throughout Soviet times. By Hashgocha Protis, it was Ezras Achim that was active in helping the Moskovitz family come as shluchim of the Rebbe to Kharkov in 1990.

The Kabbalas Ponim and chupa took place in the great Kharkov synagogue on Pushkinskaya street. Locals were in awe of the crowd filling the courtyard of the shul, as shluchim, friends and relatives from all over the world arrived to take part in the simcha – from Moscow to Caracas, from Oklahoma to Nebraska, from Odessa to St. Petersburg and many more corners of the globe.

The mayor of Kharkov, Gennadiy (Moshe) Kernes, had a brocha under the chupa, and in his speech later in the evening he benched the choson and kalla to continue in the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s way.

The seuda and dancing took place in the Radmir Expo Hall. Ukrainian dancers danced to ‘Hop Kossack’ and, together with the “Kol Yisrael” band from Eretz Yisrael, got everyone on their feet …including the mayor and all the locals who all said that they never had experienced such happiness in their lives.
