Samarkand, Uzbekistan — A community Seder was held for Samarkand’s Jewish community to celebrate Passover last week at Orh Avner Sunday School. Over 200 people gathered around the table to read the Hagadah and get the chance to meet with friends some rarely get the chance to see. This year, at the Ohr Avner funded Seder, one of the most notable restaurants in town was made kosher under Samarkand’s chief Rabbi Isaac Jacobson for the event.

During the Seder, the Rabbi read from the Hagadah and guests enjoyed the traditional Passover dishes. Among those that members of Samarkand’s Jewish community thanked for the Seder were Uzbekistan’s Chief Rabbi David Gurevich for aid with the delivery of Passover matzo and wine.
