100 Years Later: Russian Shul Reopened

Two years ago members of the Jewish community in the Russian city of Kaluga had the cities ancient Shul returned after being shuttered by the communists some 100 years ago. Last week an exhaustive renovation was completed and the Shul rededicated in a joyous ceremony.

The event began with the installation of the Mezuzah by Rabbi Berel Lazar, the chief rabbi of Russia, and was well attended by local representatives of government. Also attending was the rabbi of the city and local Shliach Rabbi Mendel Zaklas, who oversaw the renovation project.
