60,000 Coins fill Monmouth County’s “Giving Menorah”
Hundreds of Jewish children and adults gathered at the Freehold Raceway Mall to fill the “Giving Menorah” constructed by Chabad of Western Monmouth County, NJ, to support the Hurricane Sandy effort.
Modeled after the “giving tree”, a popular children’s book, which highlights the dedication of a tree who gives of itself unconditionally to the little boy if loves, the giving menorah encourages children and adults alike to give of themselves to those who suffered greatly during the recent hurricane.
The Ceremony was attended by Monmouth County representative Serena DiMaso who addressed the celebration, as well as Manalapan Township Mayor Susan Cohen who lit the Menorah.
Children activities at the celebration included the making of their very own edible menorahs, beautiful sand art projects and more.
