New Torah Launched for Northern California Town
Over 100 people turned out for the launch of a brand new Torah for the Chabad Jewish Community Center of Folsom, California. Initiated over two years ago by local businessman Mr. Avi Shekarlab, the Community Torah Project was launched with much celebration.
Rabbi Yossi Grossbaum, shliach to Folsom, El Dorado Hills and the surrounding region, explained the importance of participating in the writing of a Torah and how we can fulfill the last mitzvah of the Torah through commissioning just one letter.
Considering the situation in the Holy Land, participants were pleased to learn of the Rebbe’s encouragement to strengthen Jewish unity through participating in the writing of a Sefer Torah.
Rabbi Mendy Cohen of Chabad of Greater Sacramento inspired the crowd with his warm words and moving stories, and led the assembled in saying tehillim for the residents of Eretz Yisroel who are under attack.
Mr. Avi Shekarlab spoke of the significance of writing a Torah scroll for him and his family.
The first letters were inscribed by Rabbi Yitzchok Raskin of Machon Stam in Crown Heights.
Live music and delicious refreshments were enjoyed by all, and the community is now working towards the completion of this Torah.
