‘Judah the Maccabee’ brings the Chanukah Story Alive
Children in South Florida were in awe as Judah the Maccabee entered their classroom. Rabbi Shmuly Gutnick of Chabad Youth Network of Florida was decked out in full Maccabee attire brought the story of Chanukah alive for thousands of children.
The students received shields and helmets to truly feel the Maccabee spirit, and relive the story of Chanukah. Olives were distributed and students smashed and crushed them to make pure olive oil using authentic machines. CHildren also made wicks for their menorahs.
The fun really reached an all-time high as students dressed in dreidels spun around and sang nun gimmel hey shin and learned the special meaning behind the exciting game. Each student went home with a small bottle of oil, a dreidel, and a special olive press sticker.
