Chabad of South Broward Sails Into the New Year
On Sunday night, 26 Elul, September 21, the 33rd Dinner of Congregation Levi Yitzchok-Lubavitch and Chabad of South Broward, FL, Award Ceremony took place on a magnificent boat, “The Catalina,” in what was by far the most exciting and memorable Dinner in the institution’s 34 year history.
The glamorous Dinner Cruise, filled to capacity with guests, departed from the Diplomat Hotel, and featured an exciting DJ, a multi-talented Illusionist, Wine Tasting by Shimon, lively Sheva Brochos for Mushky (Tennenhaus) and Oren Hizkiya, and a beautiful Award Ceremony.
Awardees included Florida Governor Rick Scott with the “Excellence in Education Award,” Paul Sussman with the “Jerusalem in Florida Award,” Rabbi Leibel Miller with the “Community Chesed Award,” and Claudia Moryossef with the “Eishes Chayil Award.”
Rabbi Dovid Kudan from the Chabad Ocean Synagogue read a letter from the Rebbe to the tenth Annual Dinner, which addresses a relevant theme, the strength, Chazakah, of three consecutive Holy Days that start the New Year.
Rabbi Yossi Lebovics, from the Chaya Aydel Seminary (Chayaaydelsem.com), led the recitation of Tehillim for all in need, including Tzvi Hirsh Chaim ben Gutal, Menachem Mendel ben Shoshana, and Elana Leah bas Shaindel Rochel.
Seminary student Chanale Shapiro, from Melbourne, Australia, eloquently gave over a beautiful Dvar Torah, and warmly acknowledged how the students at the Chaya Aydel Seminary are so welcomed in the Hallandale Beach Community, and give of their time to Community Projects and Outreach.
Rabbi Raphael Tennenhaus emphasized how the Dinner commemorated the completion of the two building Old Jerusalem Campus, and the launching of the Tzvi Hirsh Chaim Bikur Cholim. “The Rebbe gave a Brocha when we bought the buildings in 1989, that we outgrow them. This Brocha has materialized, and we will soon have to add a second storey to our buildings. The Tzvi Hirsh Chaim Bikur Cholim has filled a much needed gap in the community, including our visiting Jewish residents in non Kosher facilities and bringing them Kosher food”, Rabbi Tennenhaus remarked.
His daughter, newlywed Mushky Hizkiya, also delivered an uplifting Dvar Torah, and added,” for twenty years I’ve asked my father to talk at the Annual Dinner. He always said that I could talk at the Annual Dinner when I get married. So, I got married Boruch Hashem and I finally get my chance.”
