Israeli Prime Minister Begins New Torah in Japan

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu concluded a state visit to Japan yesterday with a meeting with the Chabad Shluchim in the country and the writing of a new Sefer Torah.

Japan’s two Chabad Shluchim, Rabbi M. M. Sudakevitch of Tokyo and Rabbi Shmulik Vishedsky of Kobe, visited the Prime Minister’s residence in the Imperial Hotel, where he greeted them warmly.

After inquiring about the state of Japanese Jewry and Chabad’s activities in the east Asian nation, the Prime Minister was honored with writing the first letter in a brand new Sefer Torah.

Once completed, the new Torah will be welcomed to Chabad of Japan’s headquarters in Tokyo.
