New Stained-Glass Dome Pride and Joy of F.R.E.E.
On Sunday, March 30, Congregation F.R.E.E. of Brighton Beach celebrated the installation of a new stained-glass dome with a lavish reception and dinner for the Russian-speaking Jewish community.
A group of formerly Ukrainian Jews initiated and funded the improvement.
Said Rabbi Hershel Okunov, Executive Director, “I would take the funds for education, but they want a shul they could feel proud of.”
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams joked with the crowd about “missing Marty Markowitz,” and praised the congregation for their persistence through Hurricane Sandy and their ambition “to not just take over Brooklyn, but the whole country.”
