Brazilian City Awards Shliach ‘Diploma of Honor’

The founder of Chabad Lubavitch of Porto Alegre, Brazil, Rabbi Mendel Liberow, was honored on Tuesday, April 3 at the City Hall. By proposal of Assemblyman Adeli Sell, Rabbi Liberow received the diploma of Honor during the occasion, which is directed by the Legislative President of the Capital, Assemblyman Mauro Zacher.

According to the honor proposal, the Rabbi has been developing in the State a solid work “that gained recognition of the entire local Jewish Community for the past thirty years.”

Adeli pointed out that Beit Lubavitch is the only traditional synagogue of the Ashkenazi community in the State that strictly follows Jewish Law. The Synagogue performs important diverse social events as well. “Everyone knows that the honoree is a person that brings people together.”

Mayor of Porto Alegre Jose Fortunati said that he insisted on being present at the occasion in view of the fact that he recognizes that Rabbi Mendel Liberow materializes an extremely deep task, which makes an impact in the Porto Alegre community. “Acts that begin with children and influence the elders, which is the reason I am here today,” said the Mayor.

The event was held on the 11th of Nissan, the Rebbe’s 110th birthday.

Rabbi Liberow emphasized that the real honor belongs to the Rebbe and that he shares this tribute with his family. “The mission is always wanting to do more, my wife and I try to do it every day.”
