Australia’s Shluchim Gather for First Time in 12 Years
More than 70 Shluchim from across Australia gathered at the Chabad Centre in Sydney’s North Shore for the first Australia-wide conference in over a decade.
The two-day conference, which began on Sunday 5 Teves, 8 December 2013, covered a range of topics delivered by Rabbis and lay professionals from Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Tasmania.
The host of the conference, Rabbi Nochum Schapiro of Chabad North Shore, said that the conference exceeded all expectations.
“We all have such varied congregations and use such a wide variety of programs, there is no measuring the value of sharing experiences. Our goal is to reach and positively inspire every Jew in Australia and show them the beauty of Yiddishkeit”, he said.
Over the two days the rabbis participated in a range of workshops and general sessions. A key focus of the conference was developing opportunities to engage every Jew in Australia and impacting the wider Australian community with initiatives of goodness and kindness.
The conference was coordinated in consultation with the head Chabad representatives in the states and territories of Australia: Rabbi Pinchus Feldman, Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Groner, Rabbi Yossel Gutnick and Rabbi Aron Serebryanski.
The spirited evening farbrengen was well attended until the early hours of the morning.
Exciting new projects and initiatives were discussed at the conference, culminating in the establishment of a Vaad who would be responsible for overseeing the various projects and undertakings of the conference.
Special thanks was offered to the organizing committee for the countless hours invested in planning the conference. The committee was spearheaded by Rabbi Nochum Schapiro and Rabbi Meir Sholomo Kluwgant and included Rabbi Eli Cohen, Rabbi Menachem Stern, Rabbi Reuvi Cooper, Rabbi Eli Feldman and Rabbi Alon Hazi.
Thanks was also extended to the dedicated team of Bochurim of Chabad of The North Shore, Lavi Klein, Shmulik Fogelman, Mayer Goldman and Ari Kapeluschnik, who enabled the comfort of all those attending by ensuring excellent cuisine and fantastic accommodation.
The formal program concluded with a spontaneous outbreak of dancing and celebration.
Those who attended were extremely inspired and discussions are already underway for the next conference.
