BU Chabad Hosts Students Bar and Bat Mitzvahs
BROOME COUNTY, NY [YNN] — Several Binghamton University students marked their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs with a celebration Sunday.
Hosted by BU’s Chabad Center, four students got to celebrate this major milestone in their lives. Typically celebrated when a girl is 12 and boys are 13, the students at Sunday’s event never got the chance to have one.
Many students said it was a way to continue family traditions.
“I always wanted to have a bar mitzvah but at the time money wasn’t good, it just wasn’t a good time and it just got put off. When the Rabbi came up to me with the idea it really intrigued me and I want to get more in touch with my Jewish roots,” said Daniel Lazrus, BU junior.
The director of the Chabad Center says for the students to choose to have this ceremony at their age shows the commitment to their faith.
