California Governator Celebrates Chanukah Early

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger got an early start Tuesday to celebrating Chanukah outside of the state’s capitol building in Sacramento.

“Dancing the Hora today at the Menorah Lighting. It was my 7th Menorah Lighting, and I always love it,” he tweeted.

The event was organized by Chabad of California, and was attended by Shluchim from throughout the state.

Rabbi Mendy Cohen of Chabad of Sacramento spoke.

“The symbol of this menorah which we’re going to light today is telling each and every single one of us that these lights will never, ever cease to exist,” he said.

Consul General of Israel Akiva Tor spoke as well, and the Kol Yakov Yehuda Choir, led by Rabbi Mendel Duchman of Los Angeles, performed Chanukah songs.

Rabbi Boruch Shlomo Cunin, head Shliach of California, introduced Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and presented him with the Lamplighter Award.

Governor Schwarzenegger praised the work of Chabad.

“The wonderful people of Chabad have done such a great job and have been such great partners of mine,” he said.

“Because we all know that government cannot take care of everything, so we need people at the Chabad that go out there and do great service throughout the year for the children and for people that need help.”

Reb Mendel Duchman is the BEST! Keep up the great work that you do on behalf of our kids!

  • CA has the best Shluchim

Rabbi Cunin can still pull this of regardless for the financial situation Chabad of CA is in, and with a big smile!!! Kol Hakovod! On a side note, a not yet frum relative of mine who works at the David Citadel in Jerusalem told me of the great Kiddush Hashem the Cunin brothers make when they stay there. They are always treating the staff well and tipping. They also remember the staff for visit to visit. Much Hatzlocha in their holy work!
