Royal Students Learn about Kosher

Tzivos Hashem visited Eton College, the school where the Royal Princes attended to run a Kashrus programme. This was part of their monthly Tefillin Club, organised by askan Mr Mendy Tejtelbaum.

The concept of Split Hooves and chewing the cud was enlivened by feeling the different preserved hooves brought in by Rabbi Yossi Simon of Tzivos Hashem.

The boys had fun trying to scrape off the fins and scales from a fresh fish. The basic halachos of kashrus were taught in hands on way. The boys had a smashing time checking the eggs for blood spots. Next the various size chalofim, explaining how the large chalef is used for the bigger animal and the smaller chalef for the chickens and halochos of shechita were discussed. One of the big highlights was the inflating a lambs lung.

The real highlight was getting their teeth into kosher candy – a first for the Eton students.

One student told Rabbi Simon, Mr Tajtelbaum and the head of Jewish studies that he wants to take on to eat only kosher! This was an amazing hachlota, living in a non kosher environment.

The programme ended with a number of boys putting on Tefillin.
