Ekaterinburg: Governor, Mayor and 6000 Attend Chanukah Event!

EKATERINBURG, Russia [CHI] – For the third night of Chanukah over 6000 Jews participated in a special Chanukah Event in the “Yekaterinburg Sports Palace”.

Alexander Misharin, the newly elected governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, recived a very warm reception by the gathered crowd. He then blessed the crowd and was honored with lighting the Shamash of the Menorah. Rabbi Zelig Ashkenazi, who is the city’s Rabbi and local Shliach, followed with the Brochos and lit the three candles.

The mayor of Ekaterinburg, Arkady Chernetsky, spoke before the crowd as well and gave Rabbetzin Chana Ashkenazi a bouquet of flowers.

Perfoming that night was Avi and Yossi Piamenta.

Helping out in making the event happen were Shluchim Rabbi Yehuda and Nechama Kozlovsky, as well as Shluchims children Mushka Levin, Tziviya Nislevitch, and Chaya Rozenblat. Also attending the event was Rabbi Itzik Barkahan and Rabbi Shmuel Aharonov along with their families.
