Several people spoke at this memorable event. One woman told the story of how it came to be that her family became involved in Bris Avrohom. When he son was a teenager, they decided to give him a bris. The rabbi asked what the boy’s father’s Jewish name was and learned that the father had also never had a bris. Father and son both had a bris on the same day. The mother was so inspired that she requested a Jewish name for herself and she and her husband were married in a Jewish ceremony at Bris Avrohom’s Annual Gala Weddings, the following spring. Now, her son is teaching in a Jewish school in Moscow, perpetuating the golden chain of tradition onto the next generation.
The women who received Jewish names at this Milestone Celebration also received, as gifts, candlesticks and a Chumash with Russian translations. They all took it upon themselves to begin lighting Shabbos candles and to observe the laws of Family Purity. Everyone who participated in Sunday’s event received a certificate to commemorate the occasion. Following the speeches, a luncheon was served.
