Teens For the Community Doubles Its Reach
LARCHMONT, NY — Teens for the Community, a volunteer group for Larchmont and Mamaroneck teens, has more than doubled in size. Begun last year with only fifteen teens, it now has 40 who attend weekly meetings.
Every Thursday evening at 6:30 pm, the group gathers to do something meaningful to enhance the lives of others – sometimes keeping it near home with a program for the local community, and at other times taking on international programs.
On Thursday, November 6, the teens were meeting to make and decorate pillows for children living at shelters operated by My Sister’s Place, an organization working with victims of domestic abuse.
The group’s flyer reads: “TFC – A place for teens to meet, have fun and do something for the community,” and that is what they have been doing so far. Among the programs they have already accomplished this school year are:
The combination of helping out an important cause and enjoying themselves appears to be what attracts the teens and makes them want to return week after week.
Occasionally, there are special events designed as an appreciation for the dedicated teens. One such event was a drum circle on October 16; another was a recognition service on May 22. (See: “Teens for the Community” Recognized For Their Service.)
TFC is one of the many programs of Chabad of Larchmont and Mamaroneck. For more information, or to join TFC, contact Rabbi Mendel Silberstein at 914-834-4321 or rabbi@jewishlarchmont.com. More information is at JewishLarchmont.com
