New Companies, Companies that Give Back, Culinary Schools, Mivtzoim at Kosher Fest

SECAUCUS, NJ [CHI] — Despite the recession economy, thousands packed the Medowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ for the annual Kosherfest, with hundreds of companies from food makers to distributors with insurance and credit card processing all in the mix touting their wares.

Among the many companies were those of a number of Lubavitchers including DUSO Food Distributors, OK Kosher, the Center for Kosher Culinary Arts, Jack’s Gourmet, Natural and Kosher, Aron’s Best, Benz’s, and Turk Caterers.

Greeting the exhibitors before the expo opend was a crew of spit shoeshiners at the Fidelity Credit booth, offering free shoe shines. Fidelity salespeople were offering businesses a new and amazing way to give back to the charities of their choices as part of a new program they are sposoring called ‘Partnership for Charities’ which allows non profit organizations to refer their ba’alei batim to Fidelity for their credit card needs, and make lifetime residuals for their organization.

One new company featuring their new line of beef sausages and cold cuts was Jack’s Gourmet. The company had its first day in business at the expo where their booth was crowded with many tasters who couldn’t get enough. Jack’s is a partnership between Crown Heightsers Dr. Chaim Broner and Chef Jack Silberstein, and their products will be available in local groceries and supermarkets.

The Center for Kosher Culinary Arts, or CKCA, is the first ever accredited all kosher culinary school which has trained tens of budding new kosher chefs. The school was started by Elka and Boruch Pinson atop their Happy Home housewares store on Coney Island Avenue in Flatbush.

Mezonos, Herring and Lechaim was available in abundance at the Benz’s booth, and many stopped to take advantage of the chasiddishe stop. Meanwhile across the hall the representatives in the OK Kosher booth took advantage and layed Tefillin with many Jews.

Jack’s Gourmet chorizo sausages are the best! And they’re DELICIOUS in chaulent!

(also, in response to #3, you should call the company about the meat b/c as far as I know they don’t have Lubavitch hashgochos [yet, due to pricing, probably] but the meat is from Uruguay)

I wondered where the “Faberge eggs” fit into the picture here. Those were originally Easter eggs the last Tsar, Nicholas II, gave to his wife and mother.

A lot of people don’t realize the goyishe background of certain items. These eggs definitely don’t belong at a Jewish event.
