Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Rabbi Gimpel Orimland, OBM
With sadness we inform you of the passing of Rabbi Gimpel Orimland, OBM, father of Rabbi Yaacov Orimland (AKA ‘Rabbi O’) of YNS. He was one month shy of his 90th birthday.
Reb Gimpel was born in 1923 in Poland, and later moved with his family to Israel. At the age of 18 he joined the British army to fight the Nazis.
After the war he settled in Israel, and became very close to the Lubavitch community in Lod and Kfar Chabad.
He later moved to the United States and settled in Miami Beach, where he lived for over 30 years, and was instrumental in founding the Yeshiva Gedolah of Greater Miami.
Following the well-known miracle story he experienced with the Rebbe regarding his son Yaacov, he became very close to the Rebbe and attended many farbrengens in 770. The Rebbe showed him much regard and closeness over the years.
In his later years, he moved to Netanya, Israel, where he was very close to the Lubavitch community.
He is survived by his three children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren – all of whom are devout Lubavitch Chasidim. His wife, Sonia, OBM, passed away 10 years ago after an illness.
The Levaya will take place on Friday at the Jewish cemetery in Netanya, Israel at 12:00pm.
