Boruch Dayan Ho’emes: IDF ‘Lone Soldier’ Found Dead

The body of 21-year-old David Menachem Gordon, an American ‘lone soldier’ in the IDF who was reported missing after failing to appear at his posts since Sunday, has been found. An IDF spokesperson said the soldier’s lifeless body was found in central Israel, with his weapon lying at his side.

The soldier’s family has been notified of the tragedy.

Israeli police had issued a request this morning for assistance in locating Gordon. He was last seen at the Tzrifin army base near Rishon Lezion on Sunday afternoon, where he underwent a dental procedure. He then headed north towards Holon, and hadn’t been heard from since.

Police said there was particular concern because Gordon, who served with the Givati infantry unit in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge, is an exemplary solider who did not have any disciplinary issues.

Gordon, who entered the Israeli army in August 2013, wrote a blog about his experiences in the military. He lived in Jerusalem.

IDF police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of his death.

This is a developing story. This post will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
