Photos: Community Mourns Slain Rabbi and Children

Wails and weeping filled the air Tuesday as coffins bearing the four slain victims were carried out from the Ozar Hatorah Jewish school the day after the shooting in Toulouse, southwestern France.

Several young men pressed their heads against the rear window of one of the hearses as it drove away.

The rabbi’s widow covered her face and held her remaining child, a 1-year-old daughter, dressed in a bright pink dress.

The widow’s uncle, Marc Alloul, described how the girl woke up in the middle of the night after the killings, calling out, “Papa! Papa!”

Here’s a look at the four victims of the attack, based on material from police, family and friends:

Rabbi Jonathan Sandler, 30, taught at the Ozar Hatorah Jewish school in Toulouse. He had been a pupil at the school as a child, then moved to Israel to study, and then moved back to Toulouse to teach. He was shot and killed when a lone gunman on a motorcycle opened fire on the school Monday.

Gabriel Sandler, the rabbi’s 4-year-old son, was a pupil at the nearby Gan Rachi school of Toulouse.

Arieh Sandler, the rabbi’s 5-year-old son, was also a pupil at the Gan Rachi school.

Miriam Monsonego was the 7-year-old daughter of the principal of the Jewish school where Monday’s shootings took place.

All three children had joint Israeli-French citizenship.

    Ad Mosie, time for the entire jewish community world wide to get together and show solidarity instead of petty differences and division because the world sees a Jew as a Jew no matter if he says Yechi or not, no matter if hes lubavitch or frum for that matter.

  • Sharing the pain . .

    Heartrending to see and watch;It just tears the heart out to think what the young wife/mother left alone, with almost all her family gone, is going through; unimaginable . . Our hearts go out too, to the parents of the beautiful young child, who lost her life also, in this tragic devastating story;
    May Hashem have rachmonus on them and on us all, and let this be the final tragedy we ever have to experience again; No words, just tears and pain . . .
    Ad Mosai Hashem , ad Mosai Hashem . .
