Viral Subway Photo Causes Kiddush Hashem
This photo was posted yesterday on Reddit, a user-generated social media website. It depicts an African-American man sleeping on the shoulder of an Orthodox Jewish man on the New York City subway. The photographer accompanied the photo with the following caption:
“Heading home on the Q train yesterday when this young African American guy nods off on the shoulder of a Jewish man. The man doesn’t move a muscle, just lets him stay there. After a minute, I asked the man if he wanted me to wake the kid up, but he shook his head and responded, ‘He must have had a long day, let him sleep. We’ve all been there, right?’
He was still sleeping soundly when I got off the train 20 minutes later.
It was a small gesture, but a kind one. I love New Yorkers!”
In the words of Charidy, a Lubavitch run Facebook group that first publicized the image: “What a wonderful reminder that every moment is a chance to do something good for another person. And not only that, but inspire the others around us with our small but powerful actions.”

Awwwwwwwww! Kindness transcends all boundaries of race, color, religion and lifestyles. There are such great people in the world.
Cynic
Guy looks too scared to move
Rarely cynical, always skeptical
Kinda what I was thinking. I wasn’t there on that train, but I know that one’s fear of “rocking the boat” can be mistaken for (and easily passed off as) niceness, especially in a scenario like this one. But, like I said, I wasn’t there, nor am I (or any of you) a mind reader.
A lesson for all of us
When we are out in the world, everyone is looking to see what we are doing. This man is setting a wonderful example. We should learn from him. I don’t understand why there are any negative comments about this.
Reminds me
Reminds me of the famous Jewish joke with the punch line “do you feel better now?
Yossel
I doubt this would happen on the 2, 3, 4 or 5 trains! The B D Q and F are pretty civilized, the 2 3 4 and 5 are not!
wowwed
Wow!
Would you let any random take a snooze on you shoulder?
It’s the small details that make a difference.

Good news! a cynic remains a cynic even if you would throw him a billion dollars he would find something negative about the way it was thrown etc. Why does it hurt you so much to let a nice thing stay just that?

Surely no one here would go on Reddit. Its kfira and kefira through and through.
