Crash Claims Life of Boy Weeks Before Bar Mitzvah
Samuel Cohen-Eckstein, a 12-year-old boy just weeks away from celebrating his Bar Mitzvah, was killed yesterday when he ran into a Park Slope street and was struck by a van.
Samuel lived in a building on Prospect Park West. He ran into the busy thoroughfare at Third Street just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, and was struck by a van traveling southbound.
He was treated on the scene by Hatzalah, then taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Chesed Shel Emes took care of the deceased to ensure its proper respect according to Jewish law.
The accident occurred right in front of the home of Rabbi Shimon and Sarah Hecht, directors of Chabad of Park Slope and friends of the family.
The driver of the van remained at the scene. There were no arrests.

I don’t understand why tragedies like this happen.

#3. since when are we supposed to spend time figuring out why these tragedies happen? We should better spend those moments doing mitzvos that will end this painful golus. No time for anything else!
