Mount Your E-ZPass Correctly or Pay More Tolls, Port Authority Warns
You may want to make sure your E-ZPass is mounted correctly in your car, or you could be hit with an extra toll, according to Port Authority.
The agency introduced a mid-tier toll rate for all vehicles on July 6. Around 9% of toll transactions processed by Port Authority are for E-ZPass tags that are mounted wrong, according to officials.
Here’s how much you could be charged if your E-ZPass tag isn’t mounted correctly (based on peak toll hours):
Cars: $16.06 –> $18.72
Two-axle trucks: $43.36 –> $46.36
Three-axle trucks: $65.04 –> $69.54
Four-axle trucks: $86.72 –> $92.72
Five-axle trucks: $108.40 –> $115.90
Six-axle trucks: $130.08 –> $139.08
Class 1 or 11: $28.99 –> $35.40
Two-axle and mini buses: $18 –> $23
Three-axle and mini buses: $18 –> $23
Motorcycles: $15.06 –> $18.22
The mid-tier rate applies to the Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, George Washington Bridge, Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge and the Outerbridge Crossing.
