A Weekly Medical Minute: Motrin for Children
Motrin is a commonly used medication to treat fever in children over 6 months of age. Motrin, which is the same medication as Ibuprofen and Advil, is very effective at treating fever, headaches as well as a basic pain reliever. Motrin is generally considered as an alternative to Tylenol, which can also be used to treat these symptoms. Motrin can be taken every 6 hours, and can be used in rotation with Tylenol every 4 hours to keep down high fevers.
Motrin should never be given to a child under 6 months of age, and should not be given to a child under 2 years old without first consulting with their child’s primary physician.
