Retraction: Rabbi Braun’s Smicha Not Destroyed After All

Purim 2011: New developments have been unfolding regarding the bizarre incident in which Rabbi Mendel Shagalow was seen ripping up a document believed to be Rabbi Braun’s Semicha, as reported here on CrownHeights.info. As it turns out, the document that Rabbi Shagalow had destroyed was actually Rabbi Braun’s grocery shopping list.

An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that Rabbi Braun was rummaging through his pocket and pulled out the grocery shopping list that his wife had given him earlier that day.

Thinking that the document contained key evidence related to Rabbi Braun’s smicha, Rabbi Shagalow grabbed the paper and ripped it to shreds.

As we went to press, the whereabouts of Rabbi Braun’s actual smicha document is still a mystery.

    Rabbi Swift in Pittsburgh thought that he accidentally ripped up Rabbi Braun’s smicha. Luckily it was only his birth certificate.

    The question is if this is the real Rabbi Braun because the real one would have Smicha therefore the one here in NY now must be an impostor.

    i ended up in the shul where Rabbi Braun was this past shabbos and I’ve rarely had such an inspiring and exciting time.
    His musaf was beautiful and after his farbrengen was great.
    ENJOY
    they’re only rebelling aganst him because he’s so good
