My Dear Friends. sheyichyu

The tremendous positive response from my recent letter had one common complaint; “Why did you wait so long to address this very important issue?” Therefore, I feel the need and responsibility to speak up again.

It is unfortunate that “old Shimshon” is the one speaking up. These important issues should be addressed by community leaders and Rabbis. For instance yesterday there was a funeral for a young Bochur who had a tragic end. The funeral was attended by many young boys and girls around the age of the Nifter. This was an opportunity for the leadership i.e. the Rabbis to attend and address these young men and women. Nobody attended or attempted to reach out to the young boys and girls that were at the Levaya. How should the youth interpret the absence of leadership at a Levaya of their peer, a young 17 year old boy – a Bochur from our system and schunah?

The message is an unfortunate clear message. It says “no one in the Rabbinate or the so called leadership gives a hoot”.

Open Letter From Shimshon Stock: Communal Issues

There are some yungeleit who have attempted to reach out to these very needy children, but few and far between. Certainly no one from the leadership can claim they have done anything with regard to this crisis.

These are our children and they are crying out for our attention and help. They are not interested in finding papers in their door daily regarding “who is the rightful Rabbi and which Rabbi is getting paid – which one is a bigger liar” etc.

Yesterday the day of the tragic Levaya we had yet another four page paper at our doorstep. This time there was a complaint against Moshe Rubashkin. Moshe is a man who puts his money where his mouth is!

It is very warped to malign a man who, I personally know, has helped every almana (widow) and divorcee in this schunah. He has been paying for their clothing, shaitlach and other items for the past five / six years. He has done this through my organization so that he remains anonymous and to allow the recipient their self respect. He has no interest in honor, praise nor plaques. He does this from the heart and no one in this neighborhood has ever done anything like this! To send out a letter maligning him is outrageous and to take him to court is way beyond reason.

Last week there was a letter asking everyone to contribute towards paying a Rabbi in this schuna. There is fighting and resistance within the vaad – there are people who want to fight and fight some more. Moshe Rubashkin is not interested in any of that – his desire is to make things better. To improve the quality of life here – not just for the members of the vaad but for everyone in this schunah. Moshe Rubashkin housed over a hundred people in his own house this past Tishrei. Moshe has done much good! Rather than dig up flaws it is time we realize and defend people doing the right things – people who are helping people.

I propose that each signator of last weeks letter looking for funds for the unpaid Rabbi should “loan” their own money. This will immediately solve the problem of the unpaid Rabbi. Had they done this they would have accomplished A: the Rabbi would have his pay immediately. B: They would not be humiliating him. C: The public (especially the vulnerable youth) would be spared this shmutz.

We need positive action – we need to pay attention to our ‘love starved’ youth. Let us begin lauding those who deserve to be lauded rather than ch’v the opposite. If we praise and recognize the good in people we are also teaching our children who and what to emulate. It is that simple!

It’s high time to be there for one another. Remember the Rebbe’s cry “we want Moshiach now”

We can accomplish this by helping one another!!!

Your friend,
Shimshon Stock

shimshon this comunity is bulied by people that only want to make truble thats why there not leting moishie do his job. we should all rise against the people that are ruining the shchuna and let moishe and the vaad do there job

  • respect

    Shimshon:

I respect you a lot, and i agree with the 1st part of your letter. But the fact that Moshe Rubashkin helps out people does NOT give him the right to do anything he wants. Rubashkin and the other side are taking our community are tearing it apart.

I look forward to more letters from one of the ONLY people i respect Simshon Stock

  • Fed up ch resident

You are right of course that all the rabbonim should have attended. I did notice that rabbi avremel shemtov head of aguch was there.
But I do have to add that I was a bit put of at the way some of those young guys who came to the funeral were dressed, they could have dressed a bit more decently for a levayar.
As for moshe rabashkin , after the way he has been treated the past few days I don’t think that we will ever see another guy of his dedication and ability run for vadd hakoll again, we are going to be left with the trash who are always using there [power to enrich themselves. It’s a disgrace and the rov who allowed him to be handed over to the police and dragged through the courts and possibly sent to jail must resign from the beis din before he is manipulated in to ruining the community even further!

M.R. is a double edged sword. Although, he may be behind a-lot of chesed, he is simultaneously the cause of a fair share of negativity.

Shimshon Stock you say it as it is. Why don’t you have a meeting with the Rabbonim and individuals that are causing all this pain and havoc and let them hear you "loud and clear". It is due time that something gets done in the Rebbe’s Schuna. This was one of the Rebbe’s top priority in life, HIS SCHUNA. The Rebbe once expressed himself saying "three things bother him to the core of his being; sleeping by fahrbrengen, Mihu Yehudi and the Schuna". Above and beyond everything else that the Rebbe accomplished and still does, IS THE SHCHUNA. STOP destroying the Rebbe’s prime dedication and goal. THE SCHUNA

c’mmon! Kol hapoisel bemumoi poisel… Your letter reeks from sinas chinom. It is no less a pashkvil than the other letters. You are clearly taking a side, and if your peace-keeper style letter was realy with ahavas yisroel in mind, you should have just given your "musser shmooz" and moved along. You think the members of this "come-unity" (?!?!) are a bunch of ignoramuses who can’t see past your cloak of justice?
Its about time we stop posting "lectures in ahavas yisroel" (as sweet as "sweet & low"; sweet but it aint the real thing), and focus on practicing what we preach. Real ahavas yisroel is when you see a yid who "nebach" is not wearing a "yechi" yarmulkeh, you still say Gut Shabbos to him. Or if Rachmono litzlon you pass a guy on Shabbos ang he has a Diglon on his lapel, instead of giving him steely eyed looks wish him a gut Shabbus – mit an emmes!
But instead, we find letters preaching "ahavas yisroel", and oy vey, the other guys pashkvil is to blame for the fact that the youth of the Rebbe’s shchuno are going "lilkoit besodeh acher". Of course rhey will! They see past the fascade of rightious ness and see the corruptness and HIPPOCRASY of your letter(s). VeDal…

  • Bennys friend, and yam supporter

you know your 1st letter you wrote you had eveyone but the flippers them selfs on your side agreeing with every word you said

    BUT

sorry your not getting that this time!
as much as i might agree that there should have been someone there at the Lvaya but you cant point blame on any rabbi in crown heights for them not doing anything

who you could blame is the person who has acupide all the rabomins time in shtusem and there for there heads and mind where elsware at the Lvaya and possobly did not even know about it.

and about what Respect wrote i agree 100%
a judge will judge both sides of the story and we will all see what happens.

there is not one person who should be able to run anything on his own and there is not one person who can proove that he works with people as a group.

YAM for example is a organization that works with these kids AND THEY HAVE BEEN CUT DOWN WITH STAFF BC THAT GUY WONT GIVE THEM FUNDING…

they have 6 goverment grants that comes in to the comunity counsels account that keeps yam going, this money is not meant for comunity its for teens who need help YAM has gotten there grants on there own, has kept them up on there own, has done additional funraising to be able to keep running so they dont have to use aditional money of the counsel, and guess what ever since he was elected he has not given them what is rightfull theres and has there for redused all there programs to the minimal and they also lost a amaizing staff mamber who needed to get another job due to lack of funds.

so please dont tell me in one letter how you are upset about noone coming to BEnnys Lvaya and also that this guy is amaizing…
    PLEASE…

you knopw him ask him yourself where is all that money why does he hold it back form them, why did E.W. leave yam ask him WHY

    WHY WH YWHY WHY

do you know that if benny he was a regular visiter at YAM

    i rest my case

There is another site that’s puts only dirt on Rubshkin and no one on the other side,
and they say that since he is a convicted felon how can we allow him to run the community,.
Let me ask you back in 1995 with the fight over aguch did anyone think of bringing that up with Rabbi S.Z G.

  • A CH Mom, fan of Shimshon

Well spoken, Shim, and kol hakovod!
Most of what you say is absolutely right on, but just as you ask us to only speak well of people and leave out the shmutz, why are we judging who attended or didn’t attend the levaya? Our minhag is not to speak and say a hesped.
Definitely, the rabbonim and ALL of the community should find ways to reach "in" to our own youth that have lost respect for authority – this being a direct result of the machloikes – IMHO
It shoudl be done by the right people, supported by all, and in the right venue, maybe the levaya was not the right time.
If you see good, say so, if you see not good, be quiet and work on it behind the scenes

  • s.b,

Yasher Koach Shimshon Stack, very well said, However I belive that tere was 1 rov by the Levaya, Horav Avrohom Shemtov ,Yoshev Rosh of AGUCH. The other
Rabonim were most probably buss fighting. As far as moshe Rubashkin goes ,he is the only Chairman of the JCC that did so many good deeds for the community,no one before him did anything, and when a Rov sais that it is a Mitzva to put him to Jail ( see rabbi shwei’s letter to Leibish Nash) then by me he is not a Rov in fact he is a ROSHO and the sooner he’ll resign the bettrer for our community, every day that he is here is a curse KLOLO for our community.

  • A Stock Admirer

Moishy Rubashkin personally has done many wonderful things for the needy. He has told me himself.

He certainly doesn’t need "old Shimshon," another well-intentioned individual, to toot his horn for him.

On the communal level, Moishy has created conditions that will cost the needy of this community MILLIONS of dollars for years to come.

From the problems in his past business dealings to the secretive fiscal manipulation in the CHJCC he has proven himself incapable and unworthy of the position to which was elected (undoubtedly as a reward for his personal largesse).

If he is guilty of nothing else, his attempt to "pack our ‘Supreme Court’" and his meddling in the affairs and looting the funds of the YAM (a program that has literally saved lives) should be enough to cause him to leave his post in shame.

Reb Shimshon, with all due respect, has offered very simplistic views on this subject (probably similar to his views on past real estate scandals from which he benefitted).

  • RebLazer

And what exactly do our youth learn from hoary chasidim who do not flinch from PUBLIC castigation of CH’s Rabbanim!?

You guys are missing the main point of this letter that is the issue with the youth, if nobody steps up and takes action, this life style will become soooo yesterday that in later generations there wont even be the "troublemakers" in the vaad, never mind the good guys.

  • youth

  • Zalman M.

    Dear Shimshon.
May You Live, And Continue to Live Until 180
    Healthy Years.

Thank you for your wonderful letter!

People say; What’s going to be with our youth?
They are going off the "Derech!"

    Exactly what is the Derech???

We "youth" Don’t want these dirty letters!
    The Filth! the fighting…
the people sending out these letters are Sinners!

We don’t want to hear all of this.

The "Derech" must be rerouted! it’s going in the wrong direction.

The Derech is: DERECH ERETZ! KUDMAH LITORAH!!!
Torah without Derech Eretz is Zero!

    The Rebbe Insisted,
    "LOVE YOUR FELLOW JEW"
    That is the Derech!

We "youth" will turn this place to good.
    We seek "Truth".
We will not learn from our elders!
They are misleading the ways of our Holy Torah!

Our elders Will learn from us (youth).
We don’t want this crooked unfaithful leadership!

It’s time the younger people of this community take the stand.
We love you Shimshon. Please keep the letters coming!
    Thank You

  • At my wits end with Crown Heights

All I can say that in general, it is apalling what is going on in this community. Be it with the Rabbonim, the council members, the politics, the modesty, EVERYTHING!

I think the question in common all of the above should be asking is WHAT WOULD THE REBBE SAY TO ALL THIS? Would he approve of all the fighting and corruptness happening in the very Shechunah he established and led for so many years? Would he not be crying in pain to see the youth of today and the immodesty that parades the streets? How can people go around saying they want Moshiach when they are part of all this.

This should ALL stop! Everyone needs to do their own part to facilitate peace and harmony in this neighborhood. Stop writing letters, and sending pamphlets out to try and gain closure. This only fuels more machlokes!

I remember this neighborhood 20 years ago. If only it was like that…..

  • A member of the shechuna

    Dear Shimshon,

Unfortunately you are the one now fanning the flames.

Stick to the positive and be an example. Don’t start criticizing in public as you critic others for doing.

Your soft spot for Fisher is finally coming out in to the public.

You should be much better than that.

    Moshiach NOW!

  • David

    A CH Mom:

You write: "Definitely, the rabbonim and ALL of the community should find ways to reach "in" to our own youth that have lost respect for authority "

Firstly, what authority exists in CH to have respect for? Secondly, even if you can say there is a little amount, how can you expect the kids to have respect for it even the adults don’t!!!

  • disillusioned

    To Benny’s Friend etc…YOU’RE RIGHT!!

Where DID all the money go??

    To fed-up CH Res

IS THAT ALL YOU CARE ABOUT…how the kids @ the levaya were dressed?!?!

For heavens sake, a young kid died, his friends all came to his levaya…WERE YOU @ REBBETZIN HODAKOV’S LEVAYA THAT MORNING??? Don’t be a hypocrite.

If everyone stopped worrying about how kids dress & started worrying about their mental, physical, & spiritual welfare, we wouldn’t have the Tzuris we have. Everyone should get their priorities right.

BTW…why don’t you complain to/about the young married women who strut down Kingston underdressed, heads barely covered, huge pregnant stomachs on full display…they are more inappropriate than these loving, grieving kids. Maybe you keep quiet b/c some of them are yours.

I worry about how all our kids will grow up in a community where everyone is fighting and going to court, & no one gives anything for respect, Sholom, or anything that makes (MADE) Lubavitchers special.

Don’t demote Shimshon to Rav (look what people think of them!!)…Make him KING OF CROWN HEIGHTS!!

  • AY

    This is answer to RESPECT:
Let it be known that the only person who ever did something concrete in this community is MOSHE RUBASHKIN the fact that he has so much opposition is only MAASEH SOTON .
LEMAAN HASHEM let him and help him do what he is trying to do (because he will suceed any way) and that will be the best thing for this community that IS what the Rebbe wants and KABEL ES HOEMES….. in does not make a difference of what his past (the bad) was.

  • lasvegasjew

could somebody please tell me what the whole rubashkin and community thing is all about.

    1) All I know about rubashkins is that he shects chickens in Iowa

2)the CHCC arn’t they the ones who you call for food stamps before they refer you to that lady in boropark.

3)the rabbanim. Hum I didn’t know that the entire community had the right to judge them. I thought the beis din (rabbanim) were the judges.

I might sound nieve but i really don’t get it.

    Thanks

  • Eli. S.

I would realy like to know more aboute Rubashkin, he seems like a very good guy, and i know he has done a lot of good, but this garbage with yam is a thorne in his side, i cant understand why he’s whithholding funds, its a shame and i hope he does something aboute it real fast,
in the past he has answered questions from CH.info, it would be nice to hear from him on this subject

  • the truth

    Dear Shimshon

1st )I was at the levaye and i did NOT see YOU there
    [omitted, stay objective]
3rd) is this letter of yours the “positive action” that you are talking about ? how dare you talk against the rabonim? who are you and what are you? and you
talk bad about them regarding things that YOU lack in
like them not being at the levaye you were not there
about them not caring about the youth …who should they learn from people like you who go in the street without a shirt? or ask woman for hugs….or from the way u talk about the rabonim or people who trying to get money for 1 rov who is not being paid because of rubashkin who you suport is that who they should learn from?

this whole letter is a bluf a bunch of lies coming from 1 big lie’er
a letter that controdicts itself on evry other line and from the auther who blames others for his own faults

shame on you shimshon shame on you
    P.S.
this not take away from shimons very good deads of tzedoka nor from rubashkins acts of kindnes a thank you for the good is due and you get it and will get it in the future but at the same time truth be told about evrything else

  • s.b.

Dear Shimson ! It is nice to hear from a neutral person, a clean point of view, without beeing involved in C.H. dirty politics. However I don’t think you should involve Moshe Rubashkin in your letter, since he is trying with all his might to bring Peace in this community ,and Rabbi Y. Shwei does not let him, in fact Rabbi Y. Shwei is trying to make sure ,that the fights in the community should go on forever, I am not sure ecxactly who is making all this fights ,Rabbi Y. Shwey-him self ,or his Gangsters, in any case they destroyed the whole community, no one has respect for a ROV anymore since R.Y. shwei told everyone (during all the 3 years that he became Rov) not to listen to Rabbi Osdoba and that everyone should do the opposite of Rabbi Osdoba, then he- Rabbi Yankel Shwey- sent out letters ,twice a month, every month since he is here, to speak Loshon Hora and lies and shmuts on the ROV or on Moshe Rubashkin or on anyone that differs his opinion ,sometimes he wrote 3 letters in the same day, and he makes sure that all this shmuts should be distributed all over C.H. to ALL the house in community.
The people are disgusted allready with all this stupid letters,(that are very often contradicting). We have to get rid of him as soon as possible

  • Youth speaking his mind

I completely agree with Zalman M. Us Youth are listening to two sides of the same story. We have our parents that are against one or the other sides. And we have our "Rabbonim" in feud over G-d only knows. Receiving letters often putting every Rabbi in the city down only makes it worse.

I can guarantee you that no Youth have any respect for any Rabbonim. For the record not a single prominant Rabbi or Individual was at the graveside of Benny Keller. Not a single one. They may have come to 770 for all of ten or fifteen minutes, but if they can’t come together to bereave a family. Then they can’t come together at all.

The Youth will not take over for any of these Rabbonim. Any Youth that eventually takes one of the places will either not be listened to or will be there just for show. Eventually of the Youth will find no respectful places for themselves, and will move to other cities. There will be no one to take the places of these Rabbonim.

In my humble opinion, I believe the current Rabbinate, the Vaad, the Beis Din and any other Rabbinical organization that there is feuding amongst, should start from the beginning. There should be candidates voted on by the people of Crown Heights. The voting should be counted and overseen by a completely outside party.

There should be a set amount of positions to be filled. Every person in Crown Heights will be able to vote for whichever candidate they want. The voting should be publicized throughout Crown Heights well enough that people will know who’s running. A complete list of names of candidates should be given to every household. People will then be able to vote at arranged voting areas. NO PARTY SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO NEAR ANY VOTING AREA. This completely jeopardizes the point of voting.

After that no one will be able to fight over who was voted in. The people that get the most votes will be voted in no matter who they are. One could argue that they may not have any experience. I highly doubt the current Rabbonim had any experience when they started out either. Once the count has been finalized the results should be advertised everywhere. The Rabbonim will be able to show the world that Crown Heights is whole again.

Once people are voted in, they must sign a contract that they will show up to a designated meeting area every certain amount of time. This will ensure that they meet and speak current issues. If one party does not come to a set meeting without excuse it should be voted in the committee whether that party should be voted out or not BY THE PEOPLE OF CROWN HEIGHTS.

Everyone can point fingers and tell lies and bring another person to court or do this or that. EVERYTHING THIS CITY DOES IS SEEN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. EVERYONE LOOKS TO THE CITY OF CROWN HEIGHTS AS THE CENTER OF CHABAD LUBAVITCH. WHEN THERE IS FIGHTING IN CROWN HEIGHTS, PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD LOOK AT US AND LAUGH. IF THE PEOPLE OF CROWN HEIGHTS DO NOT FIX THIS, IT WILL NOT FIX ITSELF. IF THE CURRENT RABBONIM ARE NOT ABLE ENOUGH TO STOP THIS FEUDING THE PEOPLE OF CROWN HEIGHTS SHOULD DO IT THEMSELVES.

  • CH RESIDENT WHO KNOWS ALL OF YOU WELL

Moshe Rubashkin has everyone’s support, its the power hungry losers who cannot fargin him. AND TO THE ONES WHO BASH RUBASHKIN , I CHALLENGE YOU TO DO A HALF OF 1 % OF WHAT HE DID. To David:
Exactly my point! I think the reason we have this plague of the "youth problem" is because we have no respect for authority, so why should they?!?

But, also, this public mud slinging has got to stop!

  • MC

    Shimshon hit on the nail.

Unfortunately we dont have rabonim who care. we have people in the vaad that all they care is to pick a fight. I think Moshe Rubashkin is doing a fantastic Job he is a tzadik a yid who doesnt look for kovod he just does the right thinbg. regarding rabbonim my Kids whom just married go to Rabbi Bogomilsky for shailos, he is warm and caring. perhaps we should add him to the bais din. It s time we need good men anshei emes in ch. enough with nthe bs, politics. our children are looking for truth.

  • disgusted with all of this

And as for you, Webby, you have allowed your website/blog to become a public laundry room, loshon horo in exponential proportions.

Don’t you have any self-respect? constructive criticism, advise, etc – OK
But this back and forth name-calling, and slandering is disgusting – and you have allowed it to continue bacause you get more hits on your blog

  • Thank you shimshon

Shimshon as usual you speak from the heart. No one ever said oishe is perfect-none of us are. However we must get to the depth of the matter and move on. There is a small group of people who hate that rabbi Osdoba is Rov (non Russian) and have used rabbi Scwei to promote their campaign. They cannot openly attack rabbi Schwei so they are demonizing Moishe.
Have you seen the letter Rabbi Scwei wrote to nash.? It is full of Moishe hatred. We have people who died we have yungerleit who R"L are on their deasth bed.
Moishe made elections for rabbonim to move on from this mes, but certain people were afraid their power would be diminished.
Walk the streets of Crown Heights. have you seen the total lack of tzinius, the boys going completely opposite of how a chassider bouchur should look. But yet we must fight and go to court destroy not only a few people but C"V the whole community.
Is this how we bring kovod to Lubavitch to the Rebbe is this how you want to keep the youth here in Crown Heights.
Everyone take one step back and look at the damage which ha soccured. ENOUGH

  • Itzik_s

    Yasher koiach, Reb Shimshon.

However, while the pashkvilkes about Moshe R are indeed way out of line, the fact is that sadly, his position is now so compromised that the only thing to do is for everyone including him to resign, election rules and the composition of the Vaad Hakohol and Netzigim to be rethought, and a new structure to be built.

Maybe Reb Shimshon ought to be the one who heads this new structure.

    Keep it up Shimshon

    the stocks arent very erudite!!!

    Long Live Shimshon.

  • Neshama

Oh, my, this is very sad, to hear what is happening in CH. All I can say, as a non-resident, is that the "S.M." is succeeding in causing strife and dividing your community – and this is definitely keeping Moshiach from ending this golus.

This definitely does not bring Nachas to The Rebbe!

And the problem with the youth, is that they are not hearing & seeing EMES, and do not feel LOVED. They are reacting to strife at home and in the community, dichotomy between ‘deeds’ and ‘the spoken word’. In fact, they are the ‘symptom’ of the disease attacking your community. They are rebelling against hypocrisy.
This is not happening just in CH, it is a phenomenon in most frum communities.

Don’t you all know that, ‘Divide and Conquer’, is the best strategy for destroying ‘goodness’.

Please consider strongly elevating the level of the tznius of the girls and women, which should help reduce the anxiety and friction (fire) of the boys and men. Where women are not careful with how they adorn their sensitive neshomas, it brings friction in the hearts of men. This aspect of their nature is hard to control.

  • thank you chicagonics

we should get these chicago people involved because they no everytihng possable how to mess up a communitey.2ndly we need to make sure that people like re dear friend from las vages arnt getting into this this is something which if you know is onfortunate but no to spread it to places where people dont know

  • concerned

I hear all that Shimshon said, and he gets alot of credit for saying it. Now comes the peula.
How do we teach the people in the community to understand how to reach out to others. There is an art to it. Lets have articles on HOW to do it.
by the way, who has the Hadar HaTorah bachurim to their houses? What about that too?
People need to understand how much the Rebbe wants us all to reach out and touch each other’s lives.
The moshul goes that just as people love a rare talking bird, HaShem loves a something that a person does that is hard for them to do, such as make shalom bayis, or ahavas yisroel. We all need to learn to reach out more…..but we can only do that with thoughts and advice of how to do it. some people don’t know how, funny as it seems!

  • Changing culture

After the Rebbe passed away, it seems like lubavitch has changed drastically. Lubavitch is more judgmental and I feel that there is allot of hostility towards people who choose a different path. Before, people where more friendly, kind and tolerant of others. I think that when youth turn away from lubavitch, it has allot more to do with the general culture of lubavitch (which seems to be have changed) then a Rav not addressing young people at a funeral.

  • Elisheva

If anybody is still reading this, let it be said here, as the right wing daashakohol will not print anthing critical of Nash, sperlin, Shagalow, Hertzog, Mutchkin etc.

There is only one goal by the righties: get rid of Rubashkin and put Shvei in as head Rov and Sperlin, through his minian Hertzog, back as CHJCC CHair. And back to the real old days of corruption and no action. If the righties take down Moshe, they will also be taking down Sperlin, because he may have done so much fenagling of the books between the CHJCC and Vaad HaKahol that he probably realizes, and if afraid to think of. Sperlin tells people he feels sorry for Moshe now.

What a hypocrite! He started this whole secular court mess with Nash. It’s like the orphan who cv"h kills his parents and asks the judge for rachmones because he lost his parents.

The only end in sight for this mess is to have either support Moshe and beat back the miserable ilk who sits around late into the night and thinks nothing but machlokes OR get some independent outside group to take over for a short while–and ket Moshe clear himself of the alleged Nash-created misdoings.
Moshiach Now! Zay a joy gut.

  • An aggravated teenager

To Disillusioned: i agree with you 100 persent!

What kind of chutzpah to ask about how Benny’s AH friends were dressed! did you do anything to try and affect them in a possitive way? no!

How come nobody ask’s about the way people dress on Kingston? that ok? boys dressed without a white shirt and black pants are a problem, but girls, which is much more un-tzniusdik- nobody mentions?!

I think its high time people in this community get their priorities strait, and start worrying about more importent thing- like the future generation! like that Kingston ave should’nt look like time square!

i realy dont think that this is what the Rebbe would want- that all we hear is that this Rov wrote a letter against that Rov. If the Rabbonim, who are supposed to educate the community, and resolve the community’s fights and arguements cant get along themeselves- how should we respect them?!

It realy kills me every time I come home from Yeshiva, because of the way the streets look, because all i hear about is the latest fights, ect.

Somebody, please tale a stand, do something about the situation in the Rebbe’s shchuna, and you will definitly have some one-the youth- behind you.

    an agrivated bochur.

  • Dovid

Very interesting that in the first paragraph of your letter you decry the political partisanship, and you then right away launch into a letter that is as political as any I’ve found at my doorstep. I don’t know if I should laugh or cry.

And while those letters are at least outwardly political, yours masks itself in the death of a kid. The other letters say "side with us for political reasons.” Yours says, "Side with us, because otherwise, children will be killed." If I’ve ever seen a case of political expediency, this is it!

And, enough with the demagoguery. If someone has an accusation pointed against him or her, the way to fight it isn’t by pointing out how many other nice things he did. You fight an accusation by proving innocence. No one denies that MR does a lot to help the community. Saying that he does is superfluous and annoying. There’s been a charge leveled against him. Any diversion just proves his guilt. Stop making this personal, and stop trying to demonize your political opponents by blaming the death of a child on them (I could just as easily have blamed the whole thing on MR and co.). Let the politics sort itself out.

    Good luck and Moshiach now!

  • longtime C-H resident

Am sure if R’ Schwei will not let hendel and his bord gang talk him into all the machlocos
there wont be so much fighting you see it all goes back for so many years and now comes the piont who has the power .thay see it that if R’schwei has the power then HENDEL can run lubavitch in his radical mashichits styal and they think that harav osdoba is not a yechink so thats all it is .but in realty who cares. yechnik or not its over wake up

  • OH Really????????!!

NO ONE IN THE RABBINATE GIVES A HOOT?????????

Please Mr. Stock – please tell me

1/HOW MANY LEVAYAS HAVE THERE BEEN LATELY- HOW MANY CHILDREN IN THE HOSPITAL…
Do we want our Rabbonim at every funeral or at every din torah and behind the desk to answer every shayla?
    (Please see bottom note)

2/DO WE WANT POLITICIANS OR RABBONIM?
A politician will go to every important funeral with the proper clothes, smile, and media entourage. A politician must step carefully in order to not step on toes. Everyone must be happy with everything he says and does.

A Rav must know the Torah backwards and fowards and only be beholden to the King of all Kings- H-kodesh Baruch Hu. Wealth, Political Standing, Poverty, Beauty, and Ugliness must not effect his rulings. Media must not effect his rulings. Only the truth as written by our Creator. Thus sometimes- okay alot of times a Rav will step on toes- will not be politically correct- will disagree with other members of the Bais Din on a ruling or another.

Hillel and Shamai did not always agree. But had Hillel and Shamai sat on the Bais Din together would anyone have tried to bring in (by force or elections) anyone who was not neutral in his rulings. Would anyone have withheld Hillel’s secretary’s pay, or dared to withold his own pay. OR (GASP) dared say one word against Hillel or Shamai.

We know the answer is NO!

We ask why our youth are having problems? When no one respects leadership. When mothers of 10 are raising their kids with their blood, sweat, and tears -no cleaning ladies- just pure Yiras Shamayim- and they are told get a job or at least one of your kids will be kicked out of yeshiva. I’m sorry if that woman raised 10 kids that belonged to someone else she could pay full tuition. But yiddishe kinderlach….

When money brings respect- not Torah learning!

As far as the Rav that is discussed-
Given that everything has become political – can someone interview him as to his ideas on the issues. Is all the truth out there for people to know if they must know? I know we see the psakim but not everyone understands what is really going on.

As far as OUR LOVE STARVED YOUTH- given the modesty of the unnamed Rav many of the things he has done for this community aren’t stated. But what about Focus on Fathers? What could be more important for this community than a service that teaches men to be better fathers and husbands. If I may be so bold to say it OUR LOVED STARVED YOUTH – need their mothers at home and not forced to work to pay grossly high tuition bills. If the family was not frum then those bills would be paid- why should our children be punished for being frum.

Note: no one said our Rabbonim should have been at the funerals for any of the Gadols of the rest of Orthodoxy when they passed away. Everyone else was there -Chabad exempted themselves!

  • out of here

I think some people are trying to push their own agendas here. The point is there are people that need help. STOP FIGHTING AND LET PEOPLE HELP OUT WITH THE PROBLEMS IN THE HOOD>

  • Real Mishchist

I am seriously considering nominating Shimshon as Moshiach he would defenily do a better job than schwei or Rubashkin

I THINK EVERYONE IS MISSING THE POINT….THE YOUTH?….YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY THEY ARE CONFUSED BECAUSE OF ALL THE FIGHTING AND HATRED GOING ON…THIS IS COMING FROM A YOUTH….I DONT UNDERSTAND ISNT IT THE ADULTS THAT GREW UP WITH THE REBBE…SHOULDNT THEY KNOW HOW TO SET AN EXAMPLE FOR THEIR CHILDREN?..YOU SPEAK SO MUCH ABOUT WHAT THE REBBE SAID….ACT ON IT…..SPOT FIGHTING!!!!

  • responsibility

My dear brothers and friends in the Crown Heights community,

I would like to bring something to your attention: prior to this message there are approx. 45 comments,

Now I want you to know something: If you think that people, Jewish Frum people all over New York City who are interested in reading about Lubavitch, dont know about this website called "Crownheights.info", you are MAKING A BIG MISTAKE. People from Boro Park, Flatbush, Williamsburgh, Queens, Monsey, New Jersey, Long Island, and many more KNOW VERY WELL ABOUT THIS WEB SITE.

I personally know MANY PEOPLE from all over those neighborhoods who log in ALL THE TIME to see what’s doing in Lubavitch and particularly in Crown Heights.

Now all you comment writers, who are writing comments filled with hatred, bitterness, and animosity, comments filled with dirt, name calling, and abominable despicable comments, DO YOU KNOW that Frume Jewish people from ALL OVER the N.Y. Metro area and some even around the country ARE READING YOUR COMMENTS ?

When all you comment writers write all these horrible, shameful, and hate-filled comments, those Frume Jewish people from all over are saying "This is Lubavitch"…"This is Crown Heights"…

Who is the one who has the nerve to take responsibility for all this embarrassment, humiliation, and tarnishing of Crown Heights and of Lubavitch ??? WHO ????

Do you know that all these comment writings filled with hatred and trashing is making THE BIGGEST CHILLUL HASHEM AND THE BIGGEST CHILLUL LUBAVITCH you can possibly imagine…..!!!!!

    RIBONO SHEL OLAM !!!!!

How can we possibly do this to the REBBE ?

Does the REBBE deserve this? that we should Bashmutz, embarass, and degrade Crown Heights like this? Does the Crown Heighs community deserve this? Does Lubavitch abroad and across the world deserve this?

What do you think the REBBE thinks of this?

AD MOSAI ? For how much longer are we going to go on ebarrassing, trashing, and degrading Lubavitch ?

Yes, Frume Jewish people all over KNOW ABOUT THIS WEBSITE, in fact, – the infamous website called"COL" has a link DIRECTLY TO this website, and when you write all these hate-filled dispicable comments THEY ARE READING IT, and they are saying "This is Crown Heights"….."This is Lubavitch"

All these Horrible comments are making THE BIGGEST CHILLUL HASHEM and THE BIGGEST CHILLUL LUBAVITCH you can possibly imagine.

Thus, I am PLEADING with you and BEGGING you, for the sake of the KOVOD of the REBBE and the KOVOD of LUBAVITCH, please STOP MAKING THIS CHILLUL HASHEM and CHILLUL LUBAVITCH, STOP embarassing and degrading Lubavitch with all these hate-filled and trash-throwing comments !!!!!

You can write comments in a respectful and Mentchliche way, you should write comments that are going out of the framework of "Ahavas Yisroel" and of "Nohagu Kovod Zeh Lozeh"

When you write your comment, please remember whose Kovod is on the line…the Kovod of the Rebbe and the Kovod of Lubavitch, Would anyone of us CHAS VISHOLOM want to embarass and degrade the KOVOD of the REBBE ???

PLEASE, RABOSAI, I BEG OF YOU, when you write these comments please take responsibility for the KOVOD of the REBBE and write in a way that you are preserving the KOVOD of the REBBE and of LUBAVITCH

  • BRHS Mother

the above POST regarding all the other neighborhoods reading this BLOG:

get you head out of the sand, we read about all the other neighborhoods too. Nothing new here, this SITE is tremendously updated and current and reads very well too. So what else is new? You think just CH has issues?
Yes, it sucks but in the end I hope everyone will just come together.
There are issues in every area these days. Indeed times for Moshiach. Its crazy though that you guys in CH can’t get you acts together – but frankly I really understand. The Rebbe is not here peiod and there is a hevkerVelt unseen before, and not common.

For those that thinik CH is bad, hello you think its better in the W?? Even Flatbush has tons of issues. Anyone aware that famous Torah Temimah school on Ocean Pkwy is besmerched in issues and will likely close down due to issues involving top brass and abised kids?

  • (reserved)

When all of you say "lets help the youth" – I truly hope that you don’t look down on them…
Many of these kids just didn’t fit the mold or in the system, what’s the BIG DEAL? it’s not a problem!. So what if some guys don’t wear a hat, and certain girls have issues with their dressing… and so what if they’re healthy and ‘hang out’ together?
The part that needs to be addressed first and most importantly is Negligence, depression, rebelion (such as drugs & like behavior that in any circle in the world poses grave danger) <—all this we can safely say does not stem from the homes but from the corrupt school systems and the community which has no concept on true education and exceptance of people who ~~WAKE UP~~~ will never be like you…. but realize IT’S 100% OK!! the part that should be of most concern is when they put themselves in danger because they’re crying out for help…and don’t give them the help that only back-handedly gives them the same crap that the yeshivas do.
So what if they want real jobs and a college education…the point is that they’re good people with kind hearts…honest loving and respectful..
Benny was truly great person, we did not need his passing for everyone to come to that conclusion – he was A GREAT JEW – one that we can all take great examples from,
    – All the "youth" who attended his funeral don’t need the kind of outreach that I’m sure most leaders of the community have in mind…
all they needed to know from early on is that it’s okay, and that no one should be expected to fit the mold. Show these kids/youth or whatever label you want to paste on them…show them that they’re still loved and excepted like the ultra-observant "goody two shoes" next door.
Glorify them for their qualities and you’ll see results,
    don’t give fake pitifull smiles,
they don’t need your pity or your disgusted smiles that say "oy..what is that tatoo, or piercing…or short skirt..or.lack of kipah…etc.."
Trust me, many of these kids are better jews and people in general then a lot of ‘black hatters’ and "frummy fakers" that this community is superfluous of.
Benny’s funeral lacked the respect of many CH Rabbanim & leaders that should have attended. Benny is in the light of truth now and resting in Gan Eden so he now has a clear understanding of politics and reasons down on earth.
What do you all say to those he left behind?
His family? one of the most pure and real in the community!
It’s not a problem if they (the youth) cannot be as observant as the set rules. What is important is that they have good hearts and everything else will just follow.
Per the comments regarding YAM. Give them back the funding that the government intended for them… put the head of the girls division back in her spot (it should be obviouse who this is) (if she would except)…
Yes, Benny would have been an avid attendee of the YAM programs along with all the youth his age who needs to find an open door…
Everyone in the community should put their expectations and attitudes towards these GREAT kids in question.
I hope for Benny’s soul to keep rising above and to go to the highest levels of the heavens…His family should never know of any heartaches and pain again. May they be consoled by their Sons’ holy life and billions of good deeds he performed along the way and all the souls he touched… I hope he continues to be a SunShine in the lives of all…forever.

  • Is anyone surprised?

Lets face it, noone has any right complaining about today’s youth when the main example they see is the ELDERS of this community acting in such an atrocious manner.

Is it a wonder they are the way they are, all they see is the supposed piers of this community fighting, corrupt etc.

    Need I say more….

P.S. This is not coming from a young person.

  • Be careful Shimshon

    Shimshon,

Don’t degrade yourself and become "one of them" who writes letters dissing people in this community. You are above that. Don’t ruin the good reputation you have for all the good and Chesed work you have done in this community for so long.

  • what you can do

Many people self-righteously talk about how all the Rabbonim and leaders are destroying the community by sending out letters. But look in the mirror! Who is reading letters and the taking sides in the fights? It’s all the people who discuss and argue about these Machlokes that make the Machlokes grow.
Stop worrying about the world. Start with yourself. Do you want to protect your children from the Machlokes? Don’t bring it into your house!
If enough people work ignore all the fighting, there won’t be people to fan the flames and the fire will die on itself.

  • set straight

Those truly concerened with the kovod of the Rebbe and Lubavitch should be walking around CH looking like frumme yidden and chassidim.

The question is not whether "the Rebbe deserves the chillul lubavitch" on this website — this is just an outcome. The question is whether he deserves it on the streets.

  • Itzik_s

OR get some independent outside group to take over for a short while
    ______________________________________________

Not or, and not a short while. Sadly, every party to this terrible machloikes has done some good for the community, but it is being overshadowed by the present state of affairs. The whole system needs to be overhauled, and anyone involved in the problems now needs to be removed from community leadership and not allowed to get involved again officially for at least five years. Now, it is like the Knesset – everyone is out for himself, nothing gets done, and there is nothing but machloikes.

  • To: what you can do

Some of us don’t actually read those pamphlets that come, so don’t classify us all as just as bad as the ones who wrote them.

They go straight from my door stoop into the garbage.

  • From a so called former troubled youth

To all of those so called "youth at risk": Remember that when you become an adult and if you choose not to be a Lubavitcher, don’t bother telling your Lubavitcher friends about your beliefs, in fact, don’t bother discussing religious beliefs with them at all. If you do, you can be sure to be attacked with comments like "So the Rebbe isn’t good enough for you"!? Or "you are an apikores"!

And likely be ostracized, looked down upon or ridiculed. In short, religious beliefs are private matters that should not be discussed with just anyone including so called friends. There is nothing wrong with choosing not to be a Lubavitcher as an adult and besides, it’s no one else’s business anyway

  • Teacherman

What’s great about all these comments is people are talking. BUT…when are we going to see ACTION???

There are too many "at risk" Kids (define at risk!) I teach lots of them.

Parents: accept responsibility, take care of your own kids, if you can’t raise em, don’t have em!!

Don’t expect the schools to raise YOUR kids! not My Job…I’m trying to raise mine.

But i do try to get parents to accept the reality. Sadly, most are in denial. These kids need help, love, understanding and yes, ACCEPTANCE> You’re not perfect, why expect your children to be? Stop coming down so hard, give them space, encourage them to be part of the family wherever possible. So Bubby doesn’t like Josh’s pierced tongue…don’t look!! one day Josh won’t like it either.

  • not there any more

    To Reserved:

You said it better than anyone else. I was a real rebel when I was young (I’m a grandparent !!) but my parents never gave up on me. I knew they weren’t happy, but I wasn’t either!

Being a teen is vey rough.

I came around on my own. My parents gave me lots of space, like Techerman suggests.

i did the same for my kids, with some strict guidleines & respect. diff generation, diff issues.

B"H I hav frum kids who are happy with themselves. Ironicly, my sibs, the family frummies, have unhappy, stressed, torn-apart kids.

I want them to move here to me, but their parents don’t let. Guess they don’t trust me!

funny how life turns out, isnt it?

  • One of Shimshon-s people

How about cloning Shimshon, Shea Hect, YAM people, & creating a new CH?? One where we don’t have Machloikes & everyone likes their neighbors? Ther’ll not be any Meseira, pashkvillin, attacks in 770, or troublemakers.

Do we have to wait till 120 years for Menuchas Hanefesh?

  • Moshe should resign, bring fisher back

    DEar Shimshon,
I respect you a lot, and i agree with the 1st part of your letter. But the fact that Moshe Rubashkin helps out people does NOT give him the right to do anything he wants. Rubashkin and the other side are taking our community are tearing it apart.

Rubashlin should resign from the Vaad Hakahol and open up a chesed orginazation where he can continue to help people with his monet. Presently he is destroying this community.

Whatever the Rebbe built he has slowly destroyed.
He is caused hatred toward one another, his phony election for the Badatz for 5 days has caused people to tuen away.
Moshe is a sweet guy, but he is misguied and should have the courage to say that he tried but no sucess and he should operate a chesed orginazation.
Shimshon, lets get Rabbi Fisher back, he at least has helped and continues to help EVERYONE in the REBBES SHECHUNAH.
Shimshon you could do it, so lets go.

I look forward to more letters from one of the ONLY people i respect Simshon Stock

  • pinky

"old shimshon" you’ve always hated the rabbis’ since you was a kid in rockaway. now you critize them for not being involved. who needs them to be involved anyway. they have no idea of what’s happening to the kids in crown heights.and the kids don’t give a hoot what they say!so what could help our screwed up youth? well yam [youth action movement] was a start but your new hero M.R cut the funds. so now what?i agree with you however ,it’s the rabbis’fault, and the hypocracy of the community that worships gelt.gives koved to fools with money in the name of yiddishkite. it’s the rabbis’ who were bought and sold and bought again. the kids aren’t fools. you can’t give them baby cakes and tell them it’s chocolate cake. can feed that to the adults but not the kids. the kids can smell.

  • a youth of 15

i know alot of the pepole at benny obm levaya very well.and i know that all they want to step back fom yiddishket more is to see fighting when they do they say deal with your problems then i will deal with mine. i have heard alot of my friends saying this about this coummunity so please stop and leaveus youth out of everthing like you have been doing until now. now and forever i hate poltics and wish to see benny again with moshiach then will see who is right us for keeping away or you for fighting

  • Boruch N. Hoffinger

Why are you, Shimshon, melamed chove on the rabbonim? Perhaps they felt the time was not ripe for such a communinal speech?
When a rav tells you "your right is your left, and vice-versa…" one should follow his directives.
Who says these teenagers are "love starved;" do you have proof? The Rambam clearly says that we have free will to do good or evil whenvever we wish.
To say that none of the rabbonim care is an awful thing to say, and something I do not believe.

  • a mom

    1. The chevra kaddisha should assign a rav to be present at every levaya.
    2. My sons were friends with Benny Keller, A"H. They said that Benny did not join in disputes about putting down others. We should learn from that.
    3. More should be done to reach out to Jewish kids. Some kids are not even in yeshiva-some don’t have any Jewish friends to encourage them in mitzvah observance, most don’t have mashpiim. It was beautiful how the family and friends of Benny suggested that people do even a small increase in Torah observance in memory of him.
The time to speak to youth is not at a levaya. Things are being planned in memory of Benny now-like his shloshim. If you think the youth of Crown Heights need reaching out to, maybe you can suggest something that will help reach out to the youth of Crown Heights and honor his memory.

  • is benos menachem a moised?

we have to stop throwing out boys from yeshiva…we need better teachers
