Bnos Chomesh Academy’s First Year-end Banquet

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — It was hard to tell who was most proud at Bnos Chomesh Academy’s first year end banquet: the parents, the students, or the staff. On Sunday, June 15th all were present to celebrate the success of the school’s very first year. Appreciation awards were given to each student in recognition of her contribution to the school. A slide show presentation of the year’s highlights had the entire audience “oohing,” “ahhhing” and laughing.

The school’s principal, Mrs. Dena Gorkin, addressed the group and thanked them for being a part of this wonderful moisad and spoke about plans for the coming year. Shaindel Greenberg, a tenth grade student hailing from Morristown, NJ, spoke about the unique experience she has had at Bnos Chomesh, pointing out that she feels accepted and cared for as well as challenged, stimulated and encouraged to grow.

Following her speech, Shaindel presented Mrs. Gorkin with a beautiful picture of the Rebbe in appreciation for her work in establishing Bnos Chomesh. Everyone enjoyed delicious refreshments, topped off with a delectable chocolate layer cake from Henna’s Cakes.

I have been lucky enough to work in Bnos Chomesh, and I have to say it is doing amazing work. The growth we’ve seen in the girls, the fun they have, the beautiful smiles on their faces all make it more than worth it to work there. This school has done what we, when in high school, always wished for. The academics are not compromised and the girls are cared for individually. Mrs. Gorkin has done an amazing job and more than that, you can ask the girls, they love it there! Everyone should support Bnos Chomesh in their amazing work. We NEED more schools like this one in Lubavitch.

To all my fellow cake lovers and cake fans etc., in case you haven’t noticed, the intentions of this article weren’t to advertise “Henna’s Cakes”(although I’m sure it’s really good) but rather to show the world the progress and effort the students of Bnos Chomesh made over the past year and to acknowledge “Bnos Chomesh” for its great work. What would we do without such a wonderful school?!

P.s. Don’t get me wrong, I like a good cake, now and then, too.
