Jews Plan Noisy Protest, NYPD Mum on Violence

Crown Heights, New York residents are not letting documented police violence pass quietly and will stage a protest on Friday.

A video posted by CrownHeights.info earlier this week documents two police officers punching Ehud HaLevi after they were called to a Brooklyn Jewish community center where he was sleeping.

Jerry Schmetterer, a spokesman for the Brooklyn district attorney, said the office had opened its own investigation on the “conduct of the police officers in this arrest,” but the police silence after the attack has prompted residents to demonstrate against police brutality.

The initiative was taken by friends of Ehud HaLevi, age 21, who was also arrested after being repeatedly punched on the Jewish holiday of Shmini Atzeres last week.

The 2 p.m. protests will start from the Jewish Children’s Museum in the Crown Heights neighborhood on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Eastern Parkway, and conclude at the 71st Precinct, where demonstrators will hold a press conference.

“We are asking everyone to bring respectful signs calling for justice for Ehud,” the organizer told the Chabad website. “We are calling for the false criminal charges to be dropped and for the violent officers to be fired and brought to trial.”

Security camera footage disputed the two police officers’ claims that HaLevi was criminally trespassing and assaulted them, police did not dismiss charges against him of resisting arrest, obstruction and criminal trespass.

He was jailed until Thursday, when his family posted his $1,500 cash bail or bond.

The victim in this case,Ehud HaLevi has a good lawyer and the video in his favor.

I think it would be a big mistake and damaging to Ehud to start making noise.

Ehuds fight is now in the court room. All this noise won’t help at all. Just look at what was with S.M. Rubashkin, had the Jewish people not made noise (with web-sites and over the top campaigns), Rubashkin would have had a much better chance.

If you want to support Ehud, GO TO COURT and sit (quietly and respectfully) by EVERY court case. Filling up a court room will have a better effect then having a demonstration.

    Observation:

Why all of a sudden the great concern?

Why is the Mossrim Machine (CHJCC, Chanina Sperlin, Dov Hikind, Barry Sugar and Co.), all of a sudden waking up and pretending as if they “care” for this young man.

Why are they all of a sudden waking up, after years of silence, after years of police abuse towards the community?

    The answer is simple.

When they had their “enforcer”, Ex-Inspector Peter Simonetti do they’re bidding by aggressively and maliciously targeting Shomrim, they were happy and couldn’t care less about what was or wasn’t happening.

As long as the police was “on their side”, the Machine would let them get away with anything.

But now that we have a new Inspector, an inspector which has not taken a liking to the Mesira Machine and in fact has cooperated with other factions in the community and in turn disregards the Mesira Machine, well, that’s a problem the Mesira Machine must correct.

The case above is an opportunity for the Machine to try once again to raise to power. We must prevent them from hijacking this tragic event for they’re own personal gain!

As someone who does not live in NY I do not know all the political going ons in CH. I am someone who watched the video several times and was appalled by the use of force UNNECESSARILY.That is something the community and all citizens should be protesting- brutality.
    What is a mesira Machine?

I am glad that people are standing up to this brutality. If some one was on video who was not a police officer doing the punching how quickly would that person be arrested and tortured through the legal system? If no protests then their is no voice. I say protest until the criminals are arrested and brought to justice. If I could make I would.

The charges against are definitely NOT false. It is clear that he resisted arrest. But that doesn’t justify the violent assault against him.

Mesira, literally “delivering” refers to Jewish delators or talebearers who maliciously “deliver” fellow Jews into the hands of non-Jewish officials who would do them harm. (http://www.jewishencycloped…) The Jewish prohibition on talebearing is said to be implemented in some Jewish communities as a blanket prohibition on providing any information — even correct information — to law enforcement authorities about fellow Jews, even in connection with a justified investigation of those fellow Jews’ reasonably suspected crimes.
