The volunteer guard who called police on the man who was beaten by responding officers at the ALIYA Institute says the authorities were contacted because of threats made by the victim.
Zalmy Trappler, a volunteer guard at the ALIYA Institute in Crown Heights says he found a man, later identified as Ehud Haleavy, sleeping naked in the center. Trappler says he asked Haleavy to get dressed and leave, but was verbally threatened.
Trappler then contacted the police. He says Haleavy threatened the officers as well.
Surveillance video appears to show the officers beating Haleavy.
Haleavy has been charged with assault, trespassing, resisting arrest and harassment. One of the officers allegedly involved has been placed on modified duty.

I don’t care what he did or said. The cop had no right to beat him like that – especially after he was subdued.
Clearly the cop was angry, probably about what he said, but a cop who lets his anger control him is not fit to be an officer, and surely shouldn’t carry a gun. Who knows what he’ll do next time he gets angry.

It’s amazing to read these comments on ch.info. This kid resisted arrests even after being beaten. There was no other way of arresting him; they tried as you can see in the beginning of the video, but he pulled his arms away even after getting struck by the baton.
Moreover, if anyone watched interviews with the other frum kids present at the time would hear them clearly saying that this punk was naked. I can only imagine the reaction that would come from this neighborhood if the police came, did not arrest him, and consequently the punk stole a Torah or did something outrageous.
PS: Yes the officers were aggressive but let’s look at the whole picture. Let’s realize that these things happen every day in the black community yet no one on this form gives a hoot.

Zalmy Trappler Claims that the night in question was the first time he saw Ehud Haleavy at ALIYA. BUT Moshe Faiglin and the corrupt Crown Heights Jewish Community Council, Inc. (with the help of Dov Hikind), are claiming that Ehud Haleavy is a homelss man, who had permission to sleep at ALIYA and they future claimed (at the press conference) that Mr. Ehud in fact had been sleeping at ALIYA for the past month.
Someone here is lying, I want to know who and why?
In Addition: The event happened on Hoshana Rabba (October 7, 2012). Ehud sat in Rikers Island for four days, why didn’t we hear about this story before CrownHeights.info exposed it? Why did the cabal at the CHJCC wait?
And besides, Mr. Feiglin didn’t seem bothered during Simchas Torah that a young Jew was sitting in jail (while everybody danced and drank themselves silly)> Now that’s odd!

First of all, the video tells a different story. It’s so easy to see Ehud retreating. If the police wanted to arrest him, all they had to do is call for backup and within two minutes he could have had additional manpower which would make it totally unnecessary to use ANY manpower in executing an arrest (NYPD 71st precinct is a 30 second drive from Aliya, especially at 4:30 am…).
Even if we were to assume the police was dealing with an unruly guy, the guy was a lightweight in his PJs (obviously unarmed), and it was totally CRIMINALLY unnecessary to beat the living daylights out of him.

How dare members of a community that calls itself Chabad say such terrible loshon horra about such an important Chabad house in our community?
There are hundreds of young couples and young men that are frum today because Aliya opened its doors to them when they had nowhere else to turn.
My son is shomer Torah and Mitzvos today because of Aliya and I know countless others whose lives have been affected physical and spiritually as well.
Mr. Trapper is one of the many young men Rabbi Feiglin and the rest of the dedicated staff help on an ongoing basis. Unfortunately there are many young confused individuals in the community that need Rabbi Feiglin assistance and most of them are not religious. How can we blame Aliya for opening its doors to those that have been rejected by all others? Aliya tried helping Mr. Trappler by giving him some chores to do in the shul to make him feel important. How can we blame a Chabad House for the actions of its constituents that it welcomes and helps?
Would you like to see Aliya close down and have all these young men homeless or imprisoned? Because that is where these comments are going!
The incident happened on Shmini atzeres morning and the details didn’t come out until Motzoi Yomtov. (Rabbi Feiglin keeps Yomtov) Bail was posted for his release within hours of Yomtovs end. Rabbi Feiglin and his dedicated staff devoted their Shmini Atezeres and Simchas Torah to ensuring hundreds of young men come to shule and dance with a Torah rather than go partying in the city or other unsavory locations. And they did a mighty fine job of that as well.
I think you all need to take a hard look at yourselves and ask yourselves why we don’t see Moshiach and why so many young people don’t want to be religious when religious people can speak such filth about a local Rabbi and his Chabad house.

Calling RABBI Moshe Feiglin “Mr” and chas vesholom “Scum” is uncalled for.
At worst, he may have not reacted in time because he got some bad advice from Zaki, who was one of the first boys he saved from the streets. Zaki has no business being head of the CHJCC, and I would not recommend him as an attorney, but he is an Aliya success story.
More likely, since he is a Jew like the rest of us and he did not know how serious the situation was, Moishe went on celebrating Simchas Torah like the rest of us.
However, unless you’re at least trying to do 1/100 of what he does to help kids in CH who have fallen, you have no right to criticize.

I happen not to know Ehud and don’t know whether I’ve ever seen him before, but he makes a great impression on me. He has the brains to stay out of the media and hire a legal team to do the work without injecting his unexperienced self into the advocacy department. He outsourced the legal advocacy to competent attorneys and kept his mouth shut and his face out of the media. He is brilliant and I give him lots of credit for his discipline.
