This Week: Healthy Free Lunch for Children

With the conclusion camps and the few days till school begins, many children who rely on the lunch provided by camp or school may miss that meal and remain hungry. Enter the free lunch truck, giving away 1000 healthy meals a day – no questions asked.

The lull between the end of camp and the beginning of school is exciting for most children, while others from impoverished homes may come to dread it.

Lunch programs in the schools fill a much needed void for these children, making sure they receive a hot and nutritious meal, who would otherwise remain hungry.

Addressing this concern is the MET Council who partnered up with the UJA Federation of New York, The Jewish Education Project and Beis Rivka to provide 1000 meals a day for four days. The truck will be in Crown Heights for one hour between 1:00 and 2:00pm and will distribute the meals on a first-come-first-serve basis and a limit of one per child.

No questions will be asked, or identification required. All children are welcome to receive a meal, which includes a sandwich, fruit, milk and vegetables.

The truck will stand at Lefferts Park on Albany and Lefferts Avenues (instead of at Beis Rivka Crown where it was today, Monday.) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

    For the people who really need the lunch, should they be embarrassed by having their picture posted online? Where is the sensitivity???

  • Is it now okay to use Satmar products?

    IS IT NOW OKAY TO USE GOLDEN FLOW MILK??? i NEED TO KNOW!!! (THE MILK LASTS LONG AND IS VERY GOOD BUT HAS SATMAR HECHSHER).

    • The REAL question is...

      why not use milk with a Lubavitch hechsher. Not jst to support our own BUT ALSO becuase of halachic issues of kashering equipment to higher temperature.

      So the real question is – why not use OUR milk?????

    those are my kids in the pic who were bored while their parents were packing for a family vacation so they went to the lunch truck to check out the free lunch. They got a kick out of the airplane style meal. They said there weren’t too many kids there as far as they could tell. Hey I guess it ain’t true what they say, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”
