Six Injured In Three Shootings As Labor Day Chaos Continues For Another Year

As tens of thousands descended on Crown Heights for the J’ouvert and the West Indian Day Parade, the NYPD beefed up its presence, bringing thousands of extra police officers to secure the neighborhood. As in other years, it didn’t work completely.

“Today in the confines of the 71st Precinct, there were numerous people who sustained gun shot wounds in three separate and isolated incidents,” the NYPD wrote in a message to the community.

Six people were injured in shooting incidents as well as others from stab wounds across the area of the parade.

At approximately 5:35 PM, officers who were assigned to the West Indian Day parade route were flagged down by two victims who both said they sustained gunshot wounds. The first male sustained a gunshot to his leg, and the second male sustained a gunshot graze wound. Both are listed in stable condition

At approximately 6:15 PM, Officers who were assigned to the Labor Day Weekend patrol coverage in the vicinity of Nostrand Avenue and Sterling Street when they heard gun shots and saw a group of people running. The officers found two males shot and immediately rendered aid. One male was shot in his neck while the other male was shot in the ankle. Both victims in this incident were in stable condition. Officers at the scene were able to swiftly apprehend a perpetrator, believed to be the shooter in this incident.

At approximately 6:30 PM, officers assigned to the West Indian Day Parade in the vicinity of Classon Ave and Eastern Pkwy in the confines of the 71st Precinct heard gunshots and found two males who sustained gunshot wounds. The first male suffered a gunshot wound to their left shoulder and is listed as stable. The second male suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and is in critical condition.

The motive of these shootings are currently unknown, and at this time they are not believed by the NYPD to be related.

Other incidents were also reported by the police, including a stabbing incident in the area of Lincoln Pl and Schenectady Ave.
