Shomrim Apprehends Shoplifter
Crown Heights, Brooklyn — At around 6:30 this evening the Shomrim hotline received a call from a worker at the Kingston Bargain Center located on Kingston between Crown and Carroll about a woman who just ran out of the store with items in her purse.
A large number of members responded and began spreading out in the area and spotted the perpetrator more then 4 blocks away from the store on Crown St and Schenectady Ave, upon approaching the woman she immediately admitted to the theft and police were called.

The woman was then arrested and taken into police custody and charged with shoplifting, she took a box of baby wipes along with a t-shirt and an MP3 player.
While waiting for Police a large crowd of black residents began gathering and calling on the Shomrim members to “let it go” and “she was on drugs, it’s not her fault”, then it began getting more confrontational with some calling things like “it’s because she’s black” and “Jews always like starting up with black people”.
Officers from the 66th Precinct arrived on scene and the confrontation was diffused, initially one of the officers attempted to persuade the store manager not to press charges and that she will pay for the items, but the manager refused stating that he has to deal with shoplifters twice a week and it has to stop somewhere.
CrownHeights.info would like to commend and thank all the Shomrim members that took off time from their work and responded to this call and apprehended the thief, and in general for all the diligent patrols they do every night in their private vehicles.
In case of an emergency never hesitate to call 911 and Shomrim at (718) 774-3333 24/7

give the woman a break – she needs food for her family. just because she is black it doesn’t mean you have to press charges
cant belive this
this is just going nuts.. when will all this end?
conc
those non jews have no respect for jews. they try to intimidate the jews into giving up and not pressing charges, just because they don’t care that jews are being cheated. its just really their own antisemitism. they are also not respecting that woman who stole because if she would get away with it as they wanted, then she would just do it again and get caught anyway, but maybe it would be worse.

why were the police discouraging the owner from pressing charges?
Also, why were the officers from the 66th precinct responding? Shouldn’t it be the 71st precinct.

The 66th Precinct police were assigned to the 71st Precinct to help with the situation of 71 officers going to the wake and funeral of Officer Timoshenko.
Precincts often call in other officers when there are special sitations.

To David,
IS this how they should teach their children sir?? It’s okay to steal because we are black and have no money?
There are ways of going about things. I’m sure your mother taught you right? or perhaps not?!
Reality
less work for the police = more crime.
if the owner were to press charges, the cops need to fill a report, therefore they try to discourage the report, therefore it would show in the statistics that there is less crime, the 71pct. is very good at what they do, and then they get raises, bonuses, and yes even promotion for controling the crime in the neighbourhood.
the whole system is corrupt…
lw

Attention all shoplifters! Feel free to hit any store you want on the Avenue except the ice cream store. The cozy haven where all of our Holy youth congregate. It would be hard to function without my fix of mint chip in a sugar cone.

DAVID–she just has to feed her family? the woman didn’t steal food and if she is hungry the city has a lot of places she can get food without stealing things.
instant brocha
yes, good move on the owner for pressing charges.

Resident
David,
I think the guy was right to press charges. If he just let it go I assure you my friend her buddies would have their new free grocery store…NO EBT even needed…and Im sure her other friends would have no problem showing off their firearms or fist.
Dont forget David…too much chesed and no gevurah at all IS A BAD THING

I actually agree that pressing charges is not the way to go. She’ll be back to shoplifting before the week is over.
The way to deal with these lowlives is Willy style Chaptz’em – after a few of those “venofol pochod haYehudim aleihem” and there won’t be any more shoplifting in the shchuna.
disgusted
yeh- she was on drugs- that should free her of charges? Maybe she should get more charges because she was on drugs. And MP3 players taste real good- dont they?
crown heightser
any one else want to mention that,mp3 players taste good? I mean, only 10 people said it so far.
Attorney
Only the District Attorney can “press charges”. The most the store owner can do at this point is cooperate with the District Attorney if the District Attorney chooses to press charges.

To DoItTheYoilyWay:
We can’t do things like that for a few reasons:
Firstly, we are not strong enough.
Secondly, it’s illegal. According to halacha, we must keep the laws of the land we are in (unless they go against Torah, which America’s laws don’t).
Thirdly, we aren’t allowed to hurt someone unless we are defending ourselves from a physical attack.
The current legal system IS frustrating, but we have to work with it — to fix it. We can’t go against it, because if we don’t follow the law, why should the blacks?
Calm down!
To “are you retarted”:
No need to attack David like that.
Even if he wasn’t being sarcastic, pounding on him like that will only make him defensive, and he probably won’t listen to you.
A better way to say it would be by explaining him why it was wrong to say what he did.
And about sticking up for your own people, no one has any obligation to stick up for anyone — even a fellow Jew. It’s only right to stick up for someone doing something right, but if someone isn’t, it’s babyish to stick up for him just because he’s “my friend.”
