Kingston Ave. Altercation Escalates into Hammer Attack

At around 2:00pm this afternoon, an African-American man driving a black Nissan SUV up Kingston Ave. was involved in an altercation with a Jewish man, which quickly turned violent.

The incident occurred on the corner of Kingston Ave. and President Street. Witnesses say the man rolled down the window of his SUV and yelled an anti-Semitic epithet at a Jewish man standing on the corner.

The Jewish man went over to the stands of produce outside Raskin’s fruit and vegetable store, picked up an onion and hurled it at the man’s SUV. The onion bounced off the window of the vehicle without causing any damage.

The man flew into a violent rage; he pulled over and parked his SUV, and exited with a hammer in his hand.

The Jewish man, fearing for his life, jumped into his own vehicle – a black Lexus – and tried to escape. However, before he could pull out, the man approached his car and smashed the driver’s side window with the hammer.

A crowd of bystanders quickly formed, many calling Shomrim, who together with bystanders prevented the attacker from escaping.

Police arrived at the scene within seconds and held the man for questioning. Amid their investigation, they discovered that the assailant had a young child in the back seat of his SUV.

Police allowed the man to arrange for the child’s mother to take custody of him before he was placed under arrest. He was charged with criminal mischief.

      Anything’s possible, but it’s very unlikely. Therre’s this weird idea floating around lately among the PC police, that if you can’t be 100% certain of something then you have to pretend that all possibilities are equally likely. That’s nonsense. Most things are not 100% certain, but you go with the odds. A randomly selected black person can safely be assumed not to be Jewish, unless there’s something to show that he is.

    To be fair, throwing a stolen onion at a car should also be described here as flying into a “violent rage.” The incident started with verbal abuse, which was clearly wrong, but the guy who was verbally abused took it to a whole new level when he retaliated physically. I’d like to see a quote from Raskin as well. How did he react to the theft of his produce?

      Throwing a onion at a car can be defined as violence only if your referring to violence against the onion . Had the ‘victim thrown a watermelon maybe youd have a point but please dont compare throwing a onion to throwing a hammer which although both are acts of aggression theyre essentially different. Maybe you can call throwing the onion a act reflecting violent rage but then youd have to redefine the hammer atacker as having flown into a bloodthirsty fury

      The guy who was arrested probably ate it, apparently he flew into a rage because he did not have breakfast today. Once he ate the onion he calmed down.

    Seems like he was guilty of a great deal more than criminal mischief.
    Why don’t they start with the beginning — an anti-Semitic epithet should be grounds to call it a hate crime. And breaking the window with a hammer onto the driver sounds like attempted assault. Etc.

      Epithets are not criminal. And the fact that he is an antisemite doesn’t mean he attacked this person for being Jewish. Not when he had a much stronger reason for attacking him. After all, he didn’t attack any other Jews, just yelled at them, which he had a legal right to do. He attacked this guy because of the onion, and presumably he’d have done the same to anyone who did the same thing to him. So no hate crime.

    Bet the insurance company refuses to pay for the broken window. By the way both drivers were in cars that were not cheap. This was not a poor on rich altercation.

    If it were a Jew calling a black man with one of the many epithets, and he would respond with throwing a stone or hit the Jew back, he would be totally justified and lauded in the public opinion for defending his honor.     they are not as fresh and hard. Use the ones from the shelf inside the store. But it’s more expensive…

      It’s not a few people’s actions. Crime comes overwhelmingly from one place. Less than 1/4 of NYC’s population is black, and yet black people commit 2/3 of all the violent crimes. Any given violent crime is 13 times more likely to be committed by a black person than by a white one. That is not a generalization, it’s an unfortunate fact. Almost a majority of black men have committed at least one violent crime.

      That doesn’t mean the ones who don’t commit crimes are also guilty. On the contrary, it’s a pity on them, since they’re trying to do the right thing and are let down by their fellows. When you see them in the street you have no way of knowing that they are from the good ones. All you know is that it’s very likely that they are not, so you have to be careful, just as when you see a shark in the water you know that it’s only dangerous if it’s hungry, and at any given moment most sharks have eaten and are not hungry, but you don’t know whether this one is hungry so you have to be careful. If you pretend that since not all sharks are dangerous you don’t have to be careful around them, you will end up dead.

    The black man started the whole incident by spewing politically correct hate speech. However; the Jewish guy did not have to throw the onion at his vehicle! But, it is understandable why he did so. He, like many other Jews is tired of being bullied by anti-Semitic cowards of all races and religions. What this individual black guy did to this man’s car was unacceptable. His actions of smashing the Jewish guy’s window over-ride the onion that was thrown at his vehicle, which caused little or no damage whatsoever. Some Jews in Crown Heights are fed up with being victims! Enough is enough. Jewish blood is not cheap, and Jews have the right to defend themselves!

    My analysis is as follows; they couldn’t find enough reason to march and protest when the attack took place at 770… so, they sent someone in ( a provocateur)- to push our buttons, and one man fell for it.. the black man in the car was a plant on several fronts: to blame us (blame the Jews aka another wave of anti-Semitism in protests) 2: a reason to protest violently in the area against the police and make the police and us as Jews out to be bad. 3: to prove that all Jews are bad and that the BDS and “free Palestine” protests are proof positive and justifiable. Look people; as Jews ( I am an Orthodox female-highly observant) we have to tow the line and when trouble makers come into our neighborhoods hit the ignore button and let both the Shomrin and police handle it. Let the trouble makers say what they want, but don’t let them get the better of you/us! That’s what they want; they want to cause strife in our communities- he was sent into the community with a child with a purpose- with a hammer- with reason! Didn’t anyone of you catch it?
    If one didn’t respond to anti-Semitic slurs it doesn’t make one a looser, it makes one wiser of the two. But, what is done is done. Now, with our luck you will have the anti-Semitic schwartzas, the BDS, and pro-Palestinians marching through, and the police brutality crowd as well..so make lots of latkes, and batten down the hatches a storm is brewing-more is to follow.. these clowns sent this guy with his schwartzla- for a march- to find a reason for one- (they never got their 40 acres and a mule)..
