Three Vehicles Broken Into over 24 Hours

This past Monday night the car of a Hatzalah volunteer was broken into. The thieves made off with expensive emergency medical equipment, including a $3,000 heart defibrillator.

A defibrillator is a life-saving device used to treat cardiac arrest. It has saved countless lives over the course of its use by first responders.

The next night, two more vehicles were broken into – both minivans parked on Brooklyn Ave. between East New York Ave. and Maple St.

The perpetrators entered the vehicles without breaking any windows by taking advantage of a rear ‘venting’ window in the minivans, which they pried open and climbed through.

An expensive camera was stolen from the first minivan, while it’s unclear if anything is missing from the second.

A Shomrim spokesman told CrownHeights.info that the recent spike in car burglaries is not at all surprising, given that we are entering the holiday season.

“The immense pressure on poor inner-city dwellers to buy fancy gifts causes an uptick in nighttime vehicle burglaries as the holiday season approaches every year,” he said.
