Community, Shomrim Assist Police in Apprehending Assailants
The collective power of the press, community and volunteers led today to the apprehension of the three individuals who assaulted young Jewish girls Tuesday afternoon, and the arrest of one of them – a 12-year-old who was charged with a hate crime.
Since publishing the disturbing video and accompanying story about three young girls attacking Beis Rivka students Tuesday afternoon, Shomrim received a number of tips regarding where the suspect usually wait for the bus after school.
Additionally, another victim who was similarly assaulted before Shavuos, came forward and told her story to the police as well.
A number of Shomrim volunteers ‘staked out’ a bus stop on Empire Blvd, which was also the scene of the second attack on Tuesday, and as 3:30pm came the three girls all appeared and waited for the city bus. Shomrim quickly got in touch with Sargent Vinny Martinos from the 71st Precincts Community Affairs Unit and Detective Hector Marin from the Hate Crimes Task Force, who asked Shomrim to follow the bus and make sure the suspects stayed on board until police arrived on scene.
As the bus crossed Kingston Avenue and S. Johns Place one of the suspects got off the bus and the volunteers split up and kept an eye on her from a distance. Officers arrived on scene moments later and took all three into custody.
One of the girls quickly implicated her friend in the attack.
Police officers brought all three girls to the 71st Precinct, and after waiting hours for the parents of the assailants, all ages 11 and 12, two of them were released into the custody of their parents while the third one – who is seen in the video choking her victim – was charged with the hate crime and was arrested.
CrownHeights.info would like to thank Shomrim for their amazing work in dealing with this case. It is very unfortunate when bias becomes an element of a crime committed by a 12-year-old, but thanks to the collective effort by both the volunteers and the members of the community who stepped up, made the connections and properly notified Shomrim this incident was quickly put to rest.
A special thank you goes to the NYPD, officers from the 71st Precinct, Det. Hector Marin and the Hate Crimes Task Force, for taking this incident as seriously as they did and worked hand in hand with Shomrim to bring it to a close.

Why wasn’t the one who threw the bottle charged?
wish Gulliani was mayor!
Why was only ONE arrested? They should all be ! Do like Guilliani did. ARREST the ones who do small crimes and then they won;t do the Big crimes!
chmom
Glad they caught her. But I wonder, what do they DO with a 12 yr old who does that???
Admonish
They admonish her. Her school can make her study about multicultural acceptance, and to learn about Jews and getting along.
A child that age can still be taught right from wrong. Getting arrested at that age is scary, and will leave its mark on her.
Of course, if her family, friends and relatives will continue to instigate hate and violence, she will never learn. Nevertheless, at least at this age there is a chance that it MIGHT work.
essay
they should make her write a essay with 50,000 words about why jews are the best thing on earth

Great Job NYPD and Shomrim
Just the knowledge that these crimes are taken serious, will deter these crimes from occuring.

It’s amazing that you were able to find them from the video. When I saw the video I thought it was a bit blurry and I couldn’t tell if the girl in the middle was Sasha or Malia.

…and, it’s people like you – to whom all black people look alike – who add fuel to their hatred.
To # 9
That is beyond racist!
the issue is hate crime
Hate crime is both ways.
If you write like that, besides being a chilul H’, you have the same attitude like them.
You will not fix the problem that way.
