Attempted Cell Phone Mugging Turns Wild – 3 Arrested
A group of pre-Teen hoodlums attempted to mug an iPhone from a Jewish girl on Montgomery Street, she bravely fought them off. A passing cop car witnessed the incident, chased the muggers and caught them – a riot nearly broke out.
The incident began unfolding at around 7:00pm on Montgomery Street near Clove Road (across from the Beis Rivka parking lot) where a Jewish girl was walking and talking on her phone. A large group passed her by and some of them attempted to snatch her phone.
Fortunately the would-be victim had a strap which secured her phone to her wrist, and she resisted her assailants.
A pair of police officer passed by and witnessed the incident and chased the would be muggers down. Three of them were apprehended on New York Avenue and Malbone Street – right across from the 71st Precinct.
The situation then took a dramatic turn, a large group of kids – some as young as 9-years-old – began taunting the cops, yelling racially charged epithets at anyone they could in a desperate attempt to cause unrest.
Rather than arresting the rabble rousers police attempted to disperse the crowd, which instead kept circling the area looking for trouble. Eventually they gave up.
Well done
I hope the girl is not too shaken and sounds like the cops did a good job.

Yes. But the mistake was to not arrest the unruly youngsters. Civilians deserve better.
Welcome to the jungle!

It’s great she was able to keep the phone, but it could have ended worse if they kept pulling at it and then broke her wrist… but she was lucky…

Its never a good idea to put up a fight. Unless of course you are armed – which too few of us are.
want to feel safe in my own home

I drove past the 71st last night and I saw what looked like a bunch of young blacks kids (boys and girls) yelling at a group of cops – I couldn’t tell if it was real or if that was typical of their rowdy behavior, but it was scary. When such young people dont respect the cops there is no safety in the community. I directly blame todays black leaders for using incitement against the cops every time one of them is involved with the law. This city is much different than it was under Guiliani – but more importantly, it is much different demographically. We can expect to see more of this in the future. I never let myu kids take electronics outside. And this is why.
with the old breed
hey you know it is not a real party until you get a vist from the nypd.
Simple way to improve
Display sheva mitzvos cards wherever possible
really
Oh that would go over well
to#11
Like that will work. I never understood Sheva Mitvos. People clearly have their own religion and guidelines they follow.
iPhone Patrol
the young kids from crown heights are organizing patrols to beat up anyone who touches a Phone that’s not his.
every person who attempt to snatch a phone should fear for his life

Everyone needs to program shomrim in your phone!! (718) 774-3333 !!!
a mom
those kids are future residents at rikers.
but, please, don’t walk in the street talking and texting on your expensive phones!!! don’t make yourselves a target!
WHY WEREN'T THEY ARRESTED?
BECAUSE THIS IS THE JEWISH PART OF CROWN HEIGHTS. THE ONLY PLACE IN AMERICA WHERE ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AND HARASSMENT DO NOT LEAD TO ARREST SO THAT THE PERPETRATORS CAN FEEL FREE TO DO IT AGAIN.

B’H This girl was very brave. I am sorry she had to fight for something that is rightfully hers. My nephew was mugged twice in Silver Spring for his phone and wallet and it was late at night- him against 5 hoodlums. When is this madness going to end?
Moschiach Now!!

the police actually did more then stand by and make believe they didn’t see anything!
