Four Shomrim Volunteers Shot while Chasing Pervert

BOROUGH PARK [CHI] — Last night, Thursday, four volunteers in Boro Park Shomrim were shot and injured. They were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for indecent exposure.

Shomrim’s first encounter with this pervert took place Wednesday, when they received calls regarding a pervert exposing himself to children. Volunteers responded to those incidents, chased the suspect, but he got away.

However, early this evening, Thursday residents spotted the pervert in action again and alerted Shomrim. The Shomrim headquarters put out an alert and had volunteers converged at the incident. Many volunteers responded and started to track and pursue the suspect.

At around 7:30pm Shomrim confronted the suspect at the intersection of 10th Ave and 46th St. The pervert then said “today is not your lucky day” and pulled a gun out and started shooting.

He hit four Shomrim volunteers, but Boruch Hashem none of the injuries were life-threatening. With the most serious injury being a shot in the stomach, while the others were shot in the arm, hand and grazed on the neck.

Once the perpetrator ran out of bullets he was overcome by more Shomrim volunteers, who subdued and held him for the police.

Police officers poured onto the scene and placed the shooter under arrest. EMS, along with a police escort then transported him to a local hospital.

Hatzalah transported all the Shomrim volunteers to Lutheran Medical Center.

Police officers continued to pour onto the scene, flanked by many politicians, denouncing the cowardly act. With even more news outlets, reporting the shooting.

Police commissioner Raymond Kelly also made an appearance at the scene, he then visited the injured Shomrim volunteers in the hospital; tanking then for “the service they provide.”

Boruch Hashem none of the injuries were life threatening, and they are all expected to be released from the hospital soon.

    Interesting how only the criminals have guns in New York. What say Shomrim get a special police training program that allows them to carry loaded weapons? (Yeah, I know some of you are thinking that sounds completely insane, but…) Think about it: If civilians are granted permits to handle and use dangerous items after extensive and rigorous training and state certification in other areas like emergency medicine or even plumbing, why can’t thoroughly vetted, trained and responsible Shomrim members be allowed to carry weapons so that they can use them in situations like this?

    It is such a shandah that this sort of thing happens and it certainly goes to show that the time has arrived when shomrim must arm themselves. It is a miracle four families are not makeing plans for levaya.

    The U.S. is full of criminals. The statistics are rather shocking. AND many of the flourish because the justice system turns them loose—-unable to take them to jail because of overcrowding. Just think about it—-there are over TWO MILLION criminals in our jail at any given time, here in the U.S.!!!!!

    I’m sorry to say I am amongst those that feel the shomrim should be armed! The time is now.

    Outstanding job! The Shomrim members chased down an animal with a gun and got him off the street. Excellent work. I wish a full and speedy recovery to all of them!

    shomrim should get a pistol license the streets are way too dangerous. The criminal element does not care about the law that forbid the carrying of firearms in ny city. So chance ny city gun law and let law a biding people carry guns for self protection.
