Jewish Woman Mugged at Gunpoint, Mugger Apprehended

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A Jewish woman was mugged at gunpoint and the masked mugger made off with her purse. The incident took place earlier this evening at around 6:45pm at the intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and President Street.

The perpetrator walked up to the woman, wearing a stocking over his head, and pointed a gun at her and yelled at her to give him her purse, the woman reacted by screaming for help at the top of her lungs and her rescue came in the form of a number of Shomrim volunteers and a few Jewish residents who chased the fleeing mugger down and stopped him.

A call to 911 prompted a quick police response and they arrested the mugger, and found the woman’s purse in his possession along with the gun, which turned out to be a fake. When placed in handcuffs the mugger, who is 15 years old, began crying and would not stop.

Sources told us that the mugger was charged with Robbery, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and he is being charged as a juvenile offender. Additionally he was interviewed by detectives from the hate crimes task force, but the incident is not being considered as a hate crime.

    Why is he charged as a juvenile? He’s 15 years old & already doing armed robber of people (I don’t care the gun was fake, next week it’ll be real.)

    i don’t think it is proper to scream or confront a mugger with a gun

    the police ALWAYS makes a point to tell that if a gun is pointed at you don’t fight

    what is going on in these public schools that so many of the kids are doing this?? Someone is not reporting kids whose needs are being met. They don’t do this for nothing, there must be an inordinate amount of abuse or something going on in these people’s homes. Why arent the public schools doing something besides pulling a paycheck?

    As the victim to this incident, let me make something clear.

    I was on my way back from just giving my last dollar to Tzedakah by the KSCVK chinese auction. So I beleive that “Tzedakah Tatzil Mimoves”

    When the shvartzeh aproached me, I gave him my purse willingly, only once he started running, I screamed!!

    The police lady who was standing on Carroll and Brooklyn came running,at the same time that Sholom stopped and chased the shvartza down President St. and within a few minutes he was surrounded by the NYPD and B”H they charged him and lets hope this is the last crime!!

  • Hope for the future

    Now that there has been much publicity regarding the recent crimes, the police have been required to handle them properly. Hopefully this will finally PREVENT the incidents from happening.

    Actually, the best thing you can do is scream your lungs off, and create a scene. Almost always, this will scare off the perp and he will run away. The same goes if someone is trying to get you into a car, you scream and bang and do whatever it takes to get away.

    All of the reported incidents where a woman targeted by a black stranger in the 11213 and 11225 zip code in the past months was Jewish. I wonder why they so badly need to call it coincidence rather than hate crime?
