1 Year to the Passing of Beloved Mother and Shlucha

Sunday, Yud Adar, marks one year to the sudden and shocking passing of Rashi Minkowicz, a young mother and Shlucha, who was well known and loved by all who knew her. In her memory many of the programs she conducted at her Chabad House were continued in her memory around the world.

Rashi passed away suddenly and left behind her husband and their eight children, as well as her parents and fifteen siblings.

Rashi co-directed Chabad of North Fulton in Alpharetta, Georgia together with her husband Rabbi Hirshy and their children. One of her signature programs was a class that took place every Tuesday night called ‘Torah and Tea’.

In her memory thousands of such classes have taken place in Jewish communities and Chabad Houses across the globe.

Following her funeral Rashis then 14-year-old son Mendel took up a campaign to build ‘Rashi’s Campus’, a new youth and educational center in their hometown of Alpharetta/Johns Creek. The goal was to get 1,800 people to donate $18 for 18 months. To date 1,189 have contributed at 1818forrashi.com. A groundbreaking ceremony for this project will take place on Sunday, March 8th 2015.

In her hometown a Mega Challah bake in her memory saw over 1,000 women participate the mitzvah of baking Challah in her memory. Many more such challah bakes around the world have been dedicated in her memory as well.

In honor of her first Yohrtzeit a new Sefer Torah will be completed and dedicated in her memory.
