Shomrim Volunteers Graduate Citizens Police Academy
Four Crown Heights Shomrim Volunteers were among the most recent graduates of the NYPD’s Citizens Police Academy, a special 14-week course in which participants are trained to acquire a wide range of skills in community policing, such as identifying gang members and hostage rescue procedures.
The course is intended to give participants a glimpse into the thought process and procedures officers are required to go though in dealing with the community and encounters with individuals.
Four Shomrim volunteers: Gadi Hershkop, Chaim Hershkop, Fishy Vail and Avi Zuckerman, completed the course this past Thursday. In an event at One Police Plaza that day, all the graduates received their diplomas from police commissioner Bill Bratton.
Also in attendance was Chief of the Department James P. O’Neill, as well as the instructors involved in the training course from the NYPD Police Academy.
This graduating class was the largest yet, with 185 participants, including two members of the Flatbush Shomrim.
