Rabbi Osdoba Responds to Rabbi Marlow’s Letter

After Rabbi Yossi Marlow of Miami, son of Rabbi Yehuda Kalman Marlow OBM, penned an attack on Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky in a scathing letter, Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba wrote back “it would’ve made sense that you call me before you publicize such a letter… since I too was a part of the issue”.

In an email response Rabbi Marlow said that the letter was never intended for the public, and was publicized against his will.

Days of Slichos, 5770

Rabbi Yosef Yitzchock Marlow Shlita
Miami, FL

I was pained to read your letter that was publicized in Crown Heights, expressing your personal pain with regard to the elections for a new Rav in our neighborhood. I feel your pain, and therefore I find it necessary to respond.

I must preface by saying that as an active Rav of a community, it would’ve made sense that you call me before you publicize such a letter to the masses, after all I ( אבלחט“א ) too was part of that issue along with your illustrious father OBM, nevertheless, according to the psak and as a Rav of Crown Heights I recommended to the election committee the candidacy of Rabbi Moishe Bogomilsky Shlita to join the Badatz of Crown Heights.

It is self evident, that according to Torah it is forbidden to hold onto Machlokes (Sanhedrin 110, quoted in Rashi Bamidbar 16, 12), especially that after so many years we are suffering from the damage done by all these Machlokes till today. Therefore it is urgent to do all in our power to stop all and any and all machlokes at once. I must also add that I am aware of all the efforts that your distinguished father invested in his last years to bring about reconciliation with all those who disagreed with him, and unfortunately a group of individuals fought him and ( אבלחט”א ) myself to prevent that from happening, and now they want to be rewarded for their success to keep the machlokes alive, by inciting to revive old machlokes anew. I have no doubt that it will benefit your father’s neshama to end any Machlokes that is attached to his name against his will.

But the most important reason for my decision is due to my role as Rav in Crown Heights that I am aware of all the blessed activities of Rabbi Bogomilsky in our community, especially in recent years, both in the Rabbinical field and in communal affairs, and the community desperately needs him as a Rav in the Bais Din. And to top it off, Rabbi Bogomilsky is famous for his good relationships with myself and with Rabbi Schwei Shlita, the two currently active Rabbonim in Crown Heights. Therefore it is self evident that he’s is the single best candidate to attend to the needs of the residents of Crown Heights and he will succeed to restore peace amongst us, and he will help restore the Bais Din to its full glory. This is the best for Crown Heights, and no doubt that you father cares for the benefit of the Schchuna.

At the same time I am puzzled by the fact that after you express your personal pain, you go on to mix into the elections and you recommend a candidate, in spite of the fact that you don’t acknowledge that you know him personally or his qualifications as a Rav who paskens Shaalos. You also haven’t been part of Crown Heights close to 20 years, and you aren’t familiar with the dynamics of our community. This public interference in the very sensitive subject is very puzzling.

I conclude with the Mishna; Hashem didn’t find any better vessel for blessing other than peace. So by restoring peace in our midst, including the elimination of all past grievances (which is the goal of these elections for a new Rav) we will merit Hashems blessing for a sweet happy new year in all matters, physical and material, and we’ll merit the Geula Shleima with Moshiach with the Rebbe in our lead.

With blessings
Harav Avrohom Osdoba

Original letter from Rabbi Osdoba to Rabbi Marlow:

This letter came in response to Rabbi Yossi Marlow that has been circulated by interests supporting Rabbi Yossi Braun attacking Rabbi Bogomilsky:

After receiving Rabbi Osdobas letter, Rabbi Marlow emailed Rabbi Osdoba to telling him that his letter was written to a private individual and was never meant for circulation:

  • Reading is believing, unless...

This is the best letter I have seen penned by Rabbi Osdoba. Ever.

    Peace is at hand.

If only the oilam would notice how many endorsement of Braun or dissing of his opponents are fraudulent – or very close to it. Letters that were meant to be private emerge with the morning wind.

Naive chassidishe mashpiyim think the Braun they see is the Braun they get. The sad thing is that they are too emessdik, these elders of Chabad, to recognize such a subtle politician. He says just the right thing at the right time, with the right face and the right kvetch.

It is impressive. Should be given an actors award.

How can be someone so naive as to think a letter of loshon hora would not be published in a world of sinus chiyum?

  • Move on

Rabbi Marlow Made a big mistake, you have to know how to let go in Life, if you run away from Crown Heights to live in a mansion in Miami just stay away, you Father was a great Rov and a chossid but his mistake was that he ad the wrong people around him (and as Rabbi Osdobo write later he realized it and wanted to make peace), but please Yossi its 5771 look around see who is and were and move on, please take care of you Kehila and stay away from Crown Heights. (and learn from you Father mistake and have the right people around you so you can get things done)

  • Z. CHAIEN

THE PROBLEM IS WE HAVE TOO MANY NAIVE PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY. ANY INTELIGENT PERSON SHOULD READ RIGHT THROUGH RABBI BRAUN. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF LOOK AT HIS HISTORY IN AUSTRALIA HES NOT WHAT WE NEED IN CH. RABBI BOGOMILSKY HAS WHAT WE NEED TO UNITE THE BES DIN AND RETORE ITS GLORY AND SHALOM IN CH. UNFORTUNATELY THE BRAUN CAMP DID A JOB WITH NEGATIVE PR AND INTIMIDATION. SAD DAY FOR THE SCHUNA IF THEY WIN.

  • The best letter

This letter should begin to everyone in the Community.

It shows how really Rabbi Osdoba wants to get past all the old Machlokes and bring a new better beginning to CH.

It is the best letter I have ever seen from Rabbi Osdoba yet, and says so much of the potential this election can have on the future of CH if we vote responsibly.

  • Moshe Haber

I’d like it known that the e-mail correspondence between Rabbi Nochum Schapiro and myself was also publicised sithout permission, and was intended as a private correspondce only. I made the mistake of showing it to someone who I should have known would publicise it.

  • mother in ch

I would like to know if that email was REALLY written by Rabbi Marlow Jr. Isn’t it interesting that anything against Rabbi Bogomilsky is whitewashed and anything for Rabbi Braun is questioned.

  • chresident

if braun wins, we can say good by to crown heights and to lubavitch.
he is a known baal machlokes in australia. why was he kept away from any girls schools/
he is a Hungarian who does not know lubavitch. he lived a few years in ch.
please think about your children and keep braun away from ch.
vote for Rabbi Bogomilsky to make a difference and save the shechuna
Yossie Marlow, people in glass houses should not throw stones. Do you want letters going out into your community about the goings on of you and …………..
it is well known in ch

  • sick of this all

I don’t have an ax to grind and I live pretty far from CH. So as an outsider, I don’t understand R’ Rosenberg. Do we need 3 days before RH an election which brings out every animosity young and old in CH? Couldn’t this wait until the middle of cheshvan when things are quieter, the weather is colder, everyone is baru’ikt? Is this how we go to hachtoras hamelech with lies, smears, pashkvilin? EREV ROSH HASHANA!!!

    Hashem yirachem!!

P.S. I’ve known Yossi Marlow for many years and he has carefully avoided CH machlokes since his father’s passing. IMHO this letter was written our of pain and hurt. I saw and witnessed first hand how min hot dergangen zein tate’s yorin in CH. The candidancy of RMG was the final straw for him. Maybe he shouldn’t have written this letter, but we have to view it as a ben yochid who felt his father’s pain and kept silent all these years.

THIS HATE AND VILE GARBAGE IS AN AFFECTATION OF LIVING IN GOLUS TOO LONG.
THE REBBE DOES NOT HAVE NACHAS FROM THIS BUSINESS OF USING SLANDER AND GOING BEHIND EACH OTHER’S BACKS

  • To Moshe Haber

    Mr. Haber,

Do you expect us to believe you should have known better? We may be stupid, but we’re not naive. You knew EXACTLY what you were doing when you “showed it” to someone. it’s easy to apologize after the damage was done.

I hope Crownheights.info & other places stop giving you a voice for your op eds. You’ve lost your credibility.

As a mispellel in Rabbi Marlow jr shul in nmb, i think we are missing the point. Ever son would and should respect ones father. We do not know what happened behind the scenes in the marlow home. What i do know, is that Rabbi Marlow jr has nothing to hide here in nmb. The 120 plus families are lucky to have have the best spoken and put together Rov. He is very successful and will be masliaich. All the other comments, move on with life.

  • an old talmid

rabbi yossi marlow shlita if that letter was truly writen by you im am shocked you were my rebbi in lubavitch yeshivah many years ago and i have lots of respect for you and your father o b m but if you are really that hurt and still in so much pain after what your father did for this comm unity the real victory would be for you to come run for rov yourself

  • Friend of Chesed

    Dear Rabbi Yossi Marlow,

    Eshes Ish is chayav Misah.
Go back to Miami & hide before the truth will hurt.

  • est

i just wanto go to the ohel. its the only place where i think theres no fighting. this is SOOOOOO sad and jews shud not act like weirdos. they learn moach shalit ha lev and they act with pure regesh. they didnt learn toira properly

  • Uncle Mendel

I Can only quote my old Spanish Teacher:

“Situation Snafu. Everything normal. All fouled up”

  • respect to Rav Marlow

he is an amazing Rav who does a lot for the people. we appreciate him very much in miami.

  • ELI DOVID GRUNTZWEIG

i agree with rabbi osdoba 100%, but i would like to ad some
    some more:

    1) i am sure that you understand very clear that the siruv on rabbi marlow o“h vas for a reason… and we hope and we are sure that by today he did teshuvo a long tim ago.

    2) do you (yossi marlow and yossi schechter) believe for 1 second, that with your letters you are giving he`m menuchas hanefesh?? or chas vesholom puling he`m out of gan eden?!

    3) we understand that you are very hurt because of your big loss r”l, so we send to you the most deepest condolencess.

    4) the place never balonged to rabbi marlow-it is not a private entity. and a yerusho is not possible here. so no one is feeling up any one`s place…

    5) since you endorse rabbi braun, we see that both of you are far away from being honest-and you have your own agenda

  • Just wondering

Isn’t it ironic? You can not vote unless you are a resident of Crown Heights, HOWEVER, you CAN run to be Rov even if your a non resident…. Why wasn’t that fact brought to anyone’s attention?
