Menorah Lit in Melbourne’s Parliament House
Chabad of Melbourne CBD held their annual Menorah Lighting on the 5th night of Chanukah at the Victoria Parliament House.
This was their 8th event in Parliament and their 16th in the City of Melbourne.
A large crowd, including many Jewish community leaders, were in attendance for the Chanukah Festivities and ensuing Cocktail Party.
Rabbi Chaim Herzog introduced the three guest speakers: Mr. James Merlino, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr. David Southwick, the Shadow Minister for Education and Member for Caulfield and Rabbi Shaul Engel – director of Chabad of Bayside.
In his address to those assembled in Queen’s Hall, Rabbi Herzog spoke of the significance of celebrating Chanukah, The Festival of Lights. He was then joined at the podium by Mr. Merlino for the formal Menorah lighting ceremony.
Following the lighting, Melbourne’s renowned Chazan Rabbi Braun led participants in singing a number of popular Chanukah melodies.
