On Wednesday, December 21, the second night of Chanukah, the 8th Day Band rocked Ottawa!! It would not be a total understatement to say that they brought the house down. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the Bubbies to the Babies who were there clapping, singing and even dancing in their seats.

8th Day Band Rocks Ottawa

On Wednesday, December 21, the second night of Chanukah, the 8th Day Band rocked Ottawa!! It would not be a total understatement to say that they brought the house down. Everyone, and I mean everyone, from the Bubbies to the Babies who were there clapping, singing and even dancing in their seats.

The 8th Day Band was brought to Ottawa, Canada by the Jewish Youth Library and Friendship Circle (Chabad of Westboro), Rabbi Yosef and Devora Caytak, who are co- directors.

The weather turned to freezing rain, school buses were cancelled all day, but at 7 PM at the Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) the theatre was full with an enthusiastic crowd.

8th Day’s Band include the Marcus brothers, Shmuel and Bentzi and their ever enthusiastic and lively drummer Rosy Rosenquist, who adds alot of fun and appeal to the performance. Rosy even does a meditative drum roll during the concert.

The concert included a country and western number, a reggae song and some serious rock n’ roll— some of it in Yiddish. This sort of diversity definitely contributes to their appeal. As does their incredible energy and positive attitude and message.

Both brothers exude joy while performing, dancing and smiling as they sing and play electric guitar. They advise audience members of the words of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, OBM, “Think Good and It Will Be Good” and also ask everyone to think positive thoughts during Rosy’s meditative drum solo.

Adding to the positive vibe of the evening was the knowledge that while those in attendance were enjoying the great music, they were also supporting a great cause, The Friendship Circle.
